Bye bye V8s

Couldn’t find a six speed when I got it. I’m pretty impatient and don’t want to wait. It’s got 33s now and can fit 35s easy. A little lift over stock and the fender wells and flares make it easy.

Nice!

There's a 2017 Rubicon 4dr near me with a 6spd and 45k miles, it's been listed for a little over a week. Manual transmissions don't sell fast in newer jeeps. I'm really tempted to trade mine for it.

The 8 speed is just better overall and especially off-road though.

There is truth to that, specifically in crawling scenarios. Have to shift a gear on an incline? Gonna lose a little momentum if you're not quick with the pedals.

Another place I worry is when I'm stuck partway up a hill and have to get out to run the winch cable. Don't want it popping out of gear. My parking brake needs a tune up and I don't trust it to hold right now.

I like manual transmissions because I like having control of my gears. Barely use my brakes in town. It's nice being able to downshift and get around someone. It's a Jeep, not a sportscar, but downshifting is a small joy of mine.

ah yeah. i do love my manual in my car. plus, with older vehicles it feels a lot more secure to me, because of being able to downshift to slow down in a brake loss situation, or push start if the battery shits.

i haven't rock crawled a whole lot, i should have more when i was in CO but the wife wasn't into it. hill descent is a great feature though, and i like how much control there is with the 8 gears going around in 4lo even in my Michigan woods.

it is kind of interesting how many other makes and models that use the ZF 8 speed too.
