As some of you may know my game has been crashing a lot. Thought it had to do with the Windows Update that came through recently.

I took a look at my graphics card and noticed the fans not running. Even while it was hot. Card is a GeForce 1070.

Checked my Update settings, needed another one. Downloaded that. Still no luck with the fans. Did a GeForce Ready driver download. That didnt fix it.

Found that if I brought up the EVGA Precision app and ran BF4 fans started running. Graphics card staying stable.

Then I noticed the setting for fan control was set to manual. I think that if I didnt start up the EVGA app the manual setting in the original configuration was set to zero fan. After setting the fan control to Auto, then the fans came on. I can now play without crashing.

I remember last week I was having some issue with the game pausing and when the desktop came up the EVGA app popped up. I immediately shut it down. Must have accidently clicked on the icon. So maybe shutting it down too quickly caused settings for fan to be zeroed. Dont know.

Good thing you figured it out but you shouldn't need additional software to fix the fan issue other than the original drivers. Try uninstalling all the software for the card, shutdown the computer and power it off, remove the card from the computer, reinsert the card, power back up and download the original driver pack that you first installed when you got the card, disable automatic updates.

Animal, card working fine now. Would like to get the FPS higher. Running now between 60 and 85 on a 144hz monitor. We had talked about that new 8 core CPU I tried to use, but the cooling fan was not up to snuff for the job. And I dont have enough tech knowledge to use faster overclocked memory.

You could back down your game video setting's if they are set high....resolution too 1080p is fine
Turn off Antialiasing and motion blur...these thing's might bump you a few frames

It's great that you figured out what it is. As ADIOS said, you can try reducing some visual settings to increase the FPS. What CPU are you currently running? Also, try pulling up Task Manager when playing to see if your CPU is actually a bottleneck. If it is, it would probably be at 100% when playing.
Also you should invest in a good air cooler for that 8 core CPU, paired with a good thermal paste.
To prevent additional problems, I would DDU your drivers and download and reinstall the newest Nvidia drivers without installing EVGA Precision. That way you have less software fuckin with your card.

I had to use a different software than my Asus system came with to manually run the GPU fans or I get the same problem you were facing. Glad you got it figured out.

De-tuning your graphics is the best way to up frames. I have a 1070 GTX and set graphics somewhere between Medium-High. I get 90fps fairly easily, but I run at
60hz refresh rate. I can see where you'd want to run at 144hz if you have the hardware to do it.

Dan, My CPU running at about 85%. Got an AMD 6 core on the socket. When i put the 8 core in I do get an increase of about 10 FPS, but after ten minutes of play I see the FPS go into the red zone then runs OK for awhile.

Got a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. but fan seems underpowered.

You do benefit from the better CPU then. Maybe it would be ok if you slapped another fan on there? Unless it already has two. I would seriously consider getting some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut; a good thermal paste can do wonders.

Dan, I've been using the INSIGNIA Thermal Paste (gray) from Best Buy. Are there different thermal pastes?

The Kryonaut thermal paste was specially developed for the extremely demanding applications and the highest demands of the overlocking community. Kryonaut is also recommended as a top product for critical cooling systems in the industrial sector.

Especially for overclocking
Excellent thermal conductivity
No curing
High long-term stability
Not electrically conductive

Can be used on aluminum coolers (warning label is only for Conductonaut!)

Winner:

Kryonaut thermal paste

The kryonaut is good stuff i agree but...the difference between real good paste and like intel proprietary paste is at most going to be 3-5 degree's
Make sure to look at how your paste is spread when you change it Gunney....poor spread make's heat...too loose of torque on the cooler make's heat...too much torque on the cooler does other stuff LoL
You can also paint the paste on too make sure your coverage is going to be good...sometime's the "dab" or the "X" or the "+" is hit and miss. And that's the good thing about the non conductive stuff you can over do it and it's okay
I wonder about the single or dual fan thing too?

You have now entered the geek zone. Personally, I have the Kryonaut Liquid Metal tim on my cpu and gpu heat spreaders and hands down it's the best of several tim's that I've tried. Even the 1g tube has done many applications and still have a lot left. You only need to spread a tiny drop of this stuff so be careful. Also, I delided my cpu and used Kryonaut it to replace the factory tim underneath the heat spreader.
If you choose to use this stuff be sure the contact surface of the heatsink isn't aluminum.
This is what I used.
