New grocery getter for the Mrs.

I like that bold green color.

I had a 1998 Grand Cherokee that was green but not as bold. I dearly miss that truck.

The GX 460 is a great truck and the GX470 has one of the best bullet proof engines you can find. The 460 was tweaked and may not be as reliable but I havent dove into the details as much. I know both maintain their resale value for years and years.

I almost picked up a GX 460, it’s a pretty solid 500,000 mile truck and that engine has been remade to be better and better until it became pretty much perfect at what it does. Toyota/Lexus stole me from GM just because they make it a point to build a truck or car that you can drive into the dirt for 20 years. I know people who went and got a BMW and lots of them just don’t make it in the long run but they are nice. I judge cars based off what I see on the road. I see tons of Toyotas and Lexus’s that are 20 years old and the paint might start to fade but they crank over and don’t burn oil, especially the early 2000 models when Toyota went overkill in the quality dept.

From what I heard the 460 uses a timing chain and it costs two times as much to replace the tensioner and guides vs the 470 which uses a timing belt.

I will say Toyota/Lexus does a great job with engines which is why you can put 500k miles on them.

BMW doesn't think an engine should last beyond 100k miles :ROFLMAO: Its bar for planned obsolescence is very low.

My dream is to get a 2020 Land Cruiser but holy crap the price is up the wall and the MPG is eye opening. Even used with 120k miles it’s a lot. I could just get a tundra I just wish they made the interiors a bit nicer. I’m just not a fan of how everything is going from V8 to V6 turbo and adding extra stress to the power plant. I almost pulled the trigger on a GSF but I do not want to pay for new tires every 12k miles and it’s so rare the parts will be hard to find later.

My father owns the LR4 and repairs and bank loans go together. For the price not a well made vehicle vs lets say a Toyota product which I've owned 2.

I've liked what Ford has been doing for the last 10-15 years incorporating tech and comfort in their interior. This is based on me riding in a 2017 Ford Edge and a 2011-ish Focus that were a few trim levels up from the base model.

Hope you like it. Personally, I'd have gone with a Jeep Cherokee SRT8, but I know speed's not your objective.

Dont get a Tundra. The new v6 twin turbos are nothing but problems out of the gate. Waste gate problems etc. Imagine how bad it will be once the warranty ends.

Oh man. If he has the 5.0 Liter V8 I know that engine well.

My brother in law has it now in his LR4 and I have it in my RR.

You can thank Ford for most of its problems which have to do with the timing chain guides. The engine was a Ford/Jag colab.

I have a second generation Sequoia, which is great for road trips, besides the mpg. especially if weather is a concern. It's not as good as a land cruiser off road but it's got the same V8. On road, it's larger and has independent rear suspension, but still has hi and low 4wd with a center locking diff. With good tires it will get thru some shit for sure.

I think it's the Jag engine. 2011 My buddy is the LR tech here for the maritimes. Which has saved the old man some money over the years. It's the V8 385 hp I think?

Yeah that's the same engine I and my brother in law have Its 375/375 and supercharged is 510/460.

So the engine that they put in the 2002-2006 RR was the shitty BWM engine.

From 2007-2009 it was a Jag engine and a great "bullet proof' engine. If you're looking for L322 that's the engine you want. I think it ws either 4.2 or 4.4 L. Ford may have had some input on this engine. Ford owned the brand at this time.

From 2010-2012 they changed over to the 5.0 L which had issues with the timing chain guides. From what I heard it was mostly on the supercharged ones, but your buddy who's a tech would have those numbers. My understanding is that Ford had a lot more input on this engine design and it was used it a bunch of Ford model cars and trucks as well.

I know doing work on mine I see Ford stamps on various components.

Before I bought mine I looked at about 10 or more and every one you could hear on startup the chain slapping around. Meaning it didn't have long.

It's not an easy job. I think the book has it at 24 hours of work. My brother in law bought one that came with paperwork by an independent shop doing the chain. He got scammed. After delivery and driving about 20 miles it went into limp mode.

He called the shop and they told him they did the chain but apparently not properly so it was fucked.

Ouch!!!

If y’all had 30k to put down on a “toy” or sports car what would you throw it at, it can be used. But keep in mind you also want to be able to really use it for at least 7 years.

Depending on what you need, I would love a 2016 Mustang GT with a manual and 31k miles is about 30k.

With my current garage, I would seriously look at a GR Toyota Corolla (3 cyl, manual awd, hatchback).

Whats diesel running you at the pump? By me its about $1.50 more a gallon
I bought the VW this past October and have mostly paid about $4.10-4.50/gal, but filled up at $3.89 yesterday. Gas here is about $1 cheaper. This thing has a 27 gallon tank, so it will ride for a while before I need to fill it up again. Factoring in the higher cost of diesel am still way ahead of what I was getting with that 5.7 Hemi jeep at 12mpg.
