Im going to be doing half tap water and half distilled water so I dont need to increase KH just GH. Ended up buying the seachem equilibium. That way my KH and GH should be fine without needing to spend more on DI water.
I want to get a TDS meter but cant find calibration solution or powder. It should be fine without calibration I think? Did u notice there was a big difference before and after calibration for your meter?

All this research and prep has me exhausted tbh. Im sure the results will be worth it tho

Alright, so after more than a month of waiting and cycling the tank, finally got my hands on some beautiful shrimp. Decided to go for bloody marys because I wasnt too keen on the lackluster color of the cherries I had last time.
Here are some pics of the new shrimps!

Im a bit uneasy about them tbh. They are not very active. Been doing some grazing, ate an algea pellet I put in today. But they are very slow and freeze in one spot for a long time. I think theyre are still shy or scared of me? I have a bad feeling more will die soon. Makes me sad. But hopefully Im wrong!

It's okay, some will die. But soon you will get the hang of it. Now some shrimp are like on coke and always moving, but most chill on plants grazing like cows.
Give it time, the water TDS is the key Gem. Every time you do a water change from now on, slip in a gallon of distilled or RO/water. I get mine for .80 cents. The goal is to eventually replace all the water in your tank with ro/water. They thrive in that water like mad. It's not easy Raising Shrimp. Some shrimp are 8k and die in a year WTF!!! I found it easier crossbreeding guppies than the shrimp. But they love me now come to my tank walls to see me. They crawl into my hand when I do a water change.

Hey @tobyloveswar !!! Its been too long, I havent seen you around? Ive been wondering how you and your shrimps have been doing?

This is my 30 gallon tank, it started out very sad and sparse looking but look how nicely its grown over the course of the past 6 months or so!
Last I counted I had about 13 different species of plants in this tank. Im a bit obsessed with aquatic plants as you can see. For stocking I have 1 platy, 2 guppies, 4 peppered corys, 2 otocinclus and 3 green neon tetras plus a super cute nano orange rainbow fish whose name I can never remember.
Soon to be joining them are 3 red high fin platys and 3 yellow platys with a super gorgeous black streak on the top and bottom of their tails, as well as 2 more corys. Going to get more neon tetras too. Now you may be wondering about shrimps? Well Ive bought around 30 so far from the time I started a few months ago, and to date only 3 have survived but theyre happy and look healthy so hey, not a complete failure right?

If you remember my 'moss tree' tank, the moss grew out of control and turned brown and I realized I hated fluval stratum with a burning passion so I redid that tank with an 'island' theme, here it is:

The second image is what it looks like rn, going thru the ugly phase. But exciting news, I bought a diy co2 kit and going to be setting it up tomorrow to use in the island tank since most of the plants in there grow super slow.

Hi Gem! I wonder how many folks here are into fish and water critters? Using marbles to protect babies has worked many times. The fish hide in spaces between marbles. Also, glass marbles aid in biofilm and algae. Gem, I know folks earning a decent living selling guppies at eBay, kinda cool. In pics, you notice 3-4 marbles and a couple seashells for pending shrimplets. I get my shrimp from flipaquactis.com Tyler and Rod are wonderful folks. They have over 350,000 shrimp and have shrimp 8k..lol. Imagine spending 8 thousand bucks for a tiny shrimp that lives for a year and half at best haha. My red cherry shrimp, shown in pics below. 10 red cherry shrimp for 30 bucks from Ohio to my door. Gem, hope you can post pics of your fish family.

Gem, notice the plate in the second pic? That's a food dish. A must have Gem, it reduces your maintenance of tank and fish illnesses 70%.
Kiss ICK goodbye, and I don't mean ICK William in rc1 map..Hahaha bf4 reference. Bought food dish at Amazon for 7 bucks. Instead of flake food, buy sinking food. To get it right to the plate without a mess or getting wet. Get a long straw. Stick straw in water over the direction of the glass feeding dish, and simply drop food through straw. It will land in dish. So much headache is reduced with this method. Also, if you have a guppy only or community fish tank. One tablespoon of Aquatic salt every water change kills most harmful bacteria. Except it will kill your plants, cause them to melt. Throw in an Almond leaf in your tank, one leaf per 10 gallons. Leaf litter are an important stimulant for guppies.

Gem if I can help and or members have questions. I have raised Seahorses, Tangs, Cichlids, Guppies, Bumblebee Gobys and now Ornamental shrimp-Neocaridina davidi. Cherry Shrimp is a beginner first shrimp. Am crazy about tiny things stage I am going through.

Gem, have you tried 2042 yet? It's the best thing in the world, girl. Hi al, I have been doing the old man thing and walking about Hollywood and west site. People ignore when you are old. I found 3-4 drug cash money drop offs LOL. I didn't grab it, I am too old to care or travel. I adore young people so happy and full of hopes and dreams. If you need me to drop AARP tags let me know. Don't want to make folks upset. I really don't think I'll ever return to BF4 guys, it's too old and just doesn't even come close to 2042. Had my best game times in b4 tho and met you guys.. Love you all, and you know I mean it.

Hey Tobs, I sure am relieved and happy to read your reply, was worried you got yourself into some trouble that you couldnt get out of and thats why you were MIA. No I havent tried it after the beta but since you speak so highly of it Ill have to grab a copy when its on sale and see whats got you so enamoured that you dont want to come back to us lol.
I miss hearing about all your interesting adventures and I sure hope you didnt take the money, I doubt the owners would be nice about it because your an old man! You should drop by now and then and keep us posted about your 2042 and irl adventures.
