Nesting Ways Gemcandy!

Then I decided to make the tank look more natural, and as my brother put it, "less like the tank of a kindergartener"
View attachment 6839

I added more live plants and kept only one plastic plant. I think it looks much better now. I also added 6 guppies, who seem to be coexisting well with the shrimp so far. Some sad news tho, at least 2 shrimp have died from not molting properly and got eaten by the fish :(
I think Im down to about 7 or 8 shrimp from the 15 that I bought originally....which is not great.
But anyway, I noticed some of the shrimp started to develop a yellowish spot on the top of their body close to their head and got excited that maybe they were eggs? But I havent seen any eggs at all and it seems like the yellow spot had started to disappear.
The bastard guppy fish also kept eating the shrimp food so I had to use a straw and drop the food directly into the cholla wood where the fish couldnt reach it.
I will be hand crafting some cool aquarium natural decor soon, will post pics once I have it ready!

LOL, you have GUPPIES? ON NOES!!! They will kill your shrimp and eat the shrimp babies, especially guppies. The rule i if a shrimp can fit in the mouth of a fish, yes it will be eaten. Guppies are the worst murderers in hobby. Have seen them eat their own babies. Worst have observed guppy babies turn on mum and attack her buthole until they ripped it open and ate her guts. I gave up those monsters. They are constantly craving and cruel. In Germany, they call guppy the Dingos of the tank. They kill for no reason. As painful as it is to say, you have to transfer guppies to a diff tank. All you need is a small filter, for them, or a 3 gallon for the guppies. It comes with its own canister filter. The 10 gallon you have I think right is perfect for shrimp. Also, the main reason you don't want guppies is this. In a 10 gallon tank, you can have 5000 shrimp Gem. They sell them on ebay 10 for 30 bucks, it's an acceptable business. The aquariums are mostly a man business. But the women involved sell like crazy.

Gem, let me you in in a secret. I like Mr. Whitefish at AARP, my respect for him is huge. To me, he's like a super dangerous city man, you know what I mean? But if he was selling me, for example, an aquarium? Maybe I buy it. But you sell the tank twice the price. I will buy it from you, especially if you apply girly ways on phone lmao. Example at the store where I buy my weed, the girls always ask me what am I doing today for fun. First time I heard I was like omg she's 21 should I go for it? Then as I took cash out from the ATM next to the counter, I heard her tell this guy that was literally a human pimple. The same thing, what are you doing tonight for fun?. The guy bit and said all husky, waiting for you, babe, some dinner? She said okay call me. She gave him the store number, I know that number by heart, as I always call it for delivery. He leaves all on cloud 9 and as I pay, I see her boyfriend it's THOR!!!!!!!! She didn't do anything wrong. All she did was ask what you are doing for fun tonight. Men are like that Gem. We go nuts when a woman talks to us. Consider what Monica did to Presdeint Bill Clinton. She didn't rape him? She just wiggled her ass and winked. LOL how do the gay guys do it hahahaha? gonna ask Beckler

That's not old school, that's just being a straight man. I never buy jewellery from a male. Always I buy from a woman. It was man that dug up that diamond. It was a man that cut that expensive rock. It was man who sold it to the store. But it will be a sweet lady, not sexy or young, only a sweet woman that will make the sale in seconds with me. I had like a gallon of coffee in the van.

The guppy requires a high temperature in the tank, tropical fish especially in winter. High temps mean lots of problems for shrimps, mostly disease. Shrimp is hard to cure. The guppies constantly catch ICK and kill off your entire shrimp colony. Shrimp is mostly better off as a species only tank

ok nap time nothing more dreary or advantageous as a dead stakeout. I figured we "got made". Kids are careful about catching a case nowadays,

Gem do you eat Turkey? cause if you do, I have a recipe that years ago chefs from Stuart Angus ate at my place that bird. That's after they made like 300 for the restaurant. This recipe goes back almost 2oo years!!! Simple, and people will declare you a turkey god

Ok be safe

Awwww :(
Im sad to hear that. I did some searching online and it seems there are people who have had success with guppies and shrimp together, even success breeding shrimp in the same tank as long as there is enough cover for the shrimp.
I have my tank running at around 22 - 23 celsius which seems to be their preferred temp and the guppies are happy too. I am still hoping they can co-exist....because to me a tank with only shrimp is a bit boring. Ive also seen the guppies interact with the shrimp and they generally dont really bother them. I have seen the guppies eat shrimp that have died tho.
According to the internet, ich does not infect shrimp?

Lol Toby.....I dont think getting upselled or scammed by a woman is a good thing. You need to stop letting women take advantage of you XD

Ill have to do some thinking about taking the guppies out and replacing them with maybe some neon tetras, or pleco, or some other fish that wont ever try to eat or bother the shrimp. The guppies are rlly pretty tho, and Im not giving up on them yet.

I've only had turkey once or twice in my life. Ive personally never found it that appealing but maybe the one I had wasnt cooked to perfection?

this is what my old tank set up looked like.

Now it looks different:

I have a confession....these past few days 2 of my guppies got sick and died and a bunch of shrimp disappeared. Im down to 4 guppies and 3 shrimp ?
But its okay. I'll keep checking the water parameters and wait 2 weeks to make sure no other fish or shrimp get sick. Then im planning on getting some pumpkin shrimp. I dont like the color of the cherry shrimp that the guy off of facebook market place sold me so Im gonna see if his pumpkin shrimp are more solid in color. I found somewhere online that sells different shrimp, fire red shrimp are 20 for $70 including shipping...seems quite expensive but the shrimp from there are nice and dark red.

New update @tobyloveswar
I thought long and hard about what you said and decided to set up a tank just for shrimps! This is my new 10 gallon that I've been setting up for the past week. I bought special substrate that is supposed to be good for shrimp and plants (fluval stratum) and bought all the decor from my local fish store. I have sunset hygro, mini scarlet temple, mini anubias, cryptocoryne, monte carlo, dwarf grass, java fern, and mini lily plants.
Im also setting up a tree with weeping moss!! I bought liquid co2 and an all-in-one fertilizer to make sure my plants grow well.
Now I just have to sit and wait for the plants to grow in and going to add shrimp in maybe 3-4 weeks!!
Also toby I need an update on your shrimps and some pics. How are they doing?

OMG GEM!! that is a FANTASTIC TANK, a heaven for shrimp. Yes, I will be posting tonight big time. You babies will do very well the substrate is the exact same one I use! You are a great Shrimp keeper that's expensive substrate you spent a lot . It pays off with less worry and matinntence. That substrate does well for shrimp.

If you get snails with is great for many reasons. But a snail dies if you have copper or copper meds in the tank just before the shrimp do. So no salt very lil aquarium salt as it kills plants and shrimps. Get sponge filters either a huge one or 2 mediums for a 10 gallon tank. Or the baby shrimp get sucked up in a mechanical filter. I have lots of shrimp now Gem. Many babies, also you'll need a Rabbit snail, they do not become a problem due to overpopulation. The shrimp benefit greatly from rabbit snail poo lol. Will be posting alot tonight for you, Gem. It rained today, so I am snug as a bug in bed hahah. Gem if this is how you are with tiny shrimp, imagine the wondrous Mother you will be if you have kids one day. I wish I could be your kid lol.

Thank you!!! I spent quite a while planning out the decor and layout and what plants to get. Its not an overstatement to say I have my heart and soul invested in this tank lol. And yes my wallet cries every time I remember how much the substrate costs. I will definitely get a sponge filter also for bubbles and air flow but for my mechanical filter I will put a sponge over the intake so the baby shrimps are safe.
omg toby I just searched up rabbit snail. Those poor guys have to drag that enormous shell around everywhere? Seems like a cruel life
Right now I have 2 nerite snails. Do the shrimp eat the snail poo? Is that why they are beneficial?
Im excited for ur shrimp update

LOL Rabbit snails hahah. You can imagine the local legends about them in their countries.
Here is a video from the guy that started me on this hobby!
Forward the video to 6:35 he talks about the benefits of poop, or known as bio-load.

Am getting further notes for you. He sells them for 3 for 30. Buck,s I bought my rabbit locally for 8. bucks she had 4 babies lol They breed much slower than Nerite snails and all others, so they don't become a problem. Wrong snails or rather too many, you will have a lot of poop. Meaning poop eats lots of oxygen.
I made my own co system cheap years ago for my plants from a 2 litter coke bottle and yeast. It was OK. Let you in a huge secret after 40 years doing that stuff... to be continued, brb in 15 tons of stuff to talk about.

Gem am old and don't know how long Ill be around. I want you to know that I have met and loved many women. The ones I remember. I don't know who you are or what you look like. But I heard you sing once in the game. I froze what seemed an eternity and just turned the PC off. You have Soul Twang is the closest I can say. Good things will always happen to you and yours. I heard that twang in Italy once in a swanky restaurant, the woman spoke softly as she was at the front of the restaurant for seating. Gem all the men in dinner, including myself, the ones that head her. Rose up and looked at her as she floated by to her booth. The men we all looked at each other said nothing and sat down. Gem, I am older than your grandpa, so I ain't flirting lol.
Just telling you that as a woman, you have a great gift. FUCKING LOOK AT ALL THE WRITING AM DOING HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH,, anything just for the chance to write, to be of any kind of help to you, Ms.. Now back to the plants and shrimp.

I know sponge filters sound dweebie. Never cared for them or used them. But I would not have my shrimp if not for them. Two things I have learned at my age. The young always think they know it all. The old always think they know it all. Hence, makes life a savoury adventure of fun. Since you made your tank a species only tank much easier to learn the hobby. Gem, you know the feeding dish for your huge tank is good, I think. But much better for your babies. Also, as I post my pics, look at my feeding dish. I laid it on top of 3-4 marbles. Reason so no bacteria forms under the dish. I did the same, I glued a small piece of my foam to a small power filter, it stopped working lol. Bought two small sponge filters and omg the difference was night and day. Also, the shrimp eat off the sponge, and the beneficial bacteria grows like mad on them. There's your CO2 kid. Gem in a 10 gallon tank, you won't need to clean your tank with a gravel hose maybe a year? Shrimp have tiny tiny poop lol. Water changes maybe once a month and just 5-10%. In fact Robert shows you a tank that he hasnt changed the water since 2019 LOL? It's the video below.

Example Robert, our Shrimp god. I would listen to his video and didn't pay attention. If I had, I would've maybe 100 shrimp alive, I lost lots of cash., time and heartbreak. Here is a few videos you MUST WATCH!!!! It will save you heartbreak and cash. It's Robert. Lil bio. This guy is in Ohio and is the king of shrimp.
He started like you with a 10 gallon tank, and now has almost half a million shrimp for sale in his warehouse. He is the king of the hobby. He visits other Prineses of the hobby right to their homes and shops.

As I gather the information, please watch. As far as the plants, let me continue, cause it looks like you love them too. For decades, I have tried the dam plants, all of them Gem, all of them. They all melted in front of my eyes and died. Even the plants I bought as I started the shrimp hobby died too.

So did a little reading of the plants I wanted on Amazon. At Amazon, the seller is careful to tell you what you need to succeed, because he dreads returns at Amazon. Remember he's a third party vendor, so he has a lot to lose if Amazon drops him. For my 3 gallon, I need short plants and read shrimp love moss. Ok so said both plants I wanted were low light and low fertiliser, and no CO2 needed. Then here is what a mean about the seller telling you everything. It goes on under each of the plants. I wanted to plant (mini swords and Java Moss) descriptions that the plants roots must be tied onto wood, or if buried in the substrate, the roots spoil and die. GAWDAM, young lady, first time in 50 years I hear that!!!!!!!!!! So I did you can use fishing line and when roots take hold of wood snip of line. I use the fertiliser called Flourish. For my tank size, it's 3-4 drops lol. For a 10 gallon, it's a cap one or twice a month. Okay, let me get you links to Robert, the shrimp king.

I want to tell you everything okay, so you can trip out how many shrimp will be born.
Links to Robert's videos, his site and stuff he uses.
Gem, when you see his video, FREAK and click on his videos, he has tons of videos, and his stuff is real knowledge. Now I have lots of shrimp and proud of myself, Gem, I lost a lot of them before. haha, I'm tired now, I'll post more tomorrow omg Gem, your tank is so you!!!!

Hi Gem today's lunch pic. Have many in back on filter bout 15 babies born 3 days ago and now emerging from moss.

Your shrimps are looking good Toby! Seems like they got lots of greenery and good spots to hide. I had some christmass moss but I thought it was growing black beard algea and freaked and tore most of it up but it turns out it was very likely just rhizoids. But Im not sure tbh lol. But anyway I tied the rest of the moss onto a rock and Ill wait for it to grow patiently.
Lol 8 bucks is stil pretty pricey for a snail tobs. Im not sure if I have any rabbit snails around here, never seen them at the fish store before. I was thinking of getting a mystery snail but those things grow massively huge so for now ill stick to my nerite snails lol
I havent decided yet what color of shrimp to get. I was thinking of doing 2 -3 colors but it seems they are destined to become transparent or brown over generations...what are your thoughts on mixing shrimp colors? Otherwise I think ill go for blue shrimp...but I kinda want to mix blue and yellow or red and blue ? what to do what to do
Tomorrow Im going to buy 3-4 ghost shrimp and 1-2 octocinclus to get the tank started while I wait for the right time to get the expensive shrimps.
And thanks for the videos, Ill make sure to check his channel out!! I checked like 4 stores toby and none of them had bacter AE and its pretty expensive on amazon. But I may have to buy it and look at it as an investment. Im thinking of maybe selling the blue shrimp if the colony thrives because none of the local sellers around here (home breeders) sell blue shrimp so it could be a nice way to make some cash (to buy more fish stuff lol)
So far, most of my plants are doing well. But, my mini scarlet temple and dwarf grass is melting :( Im hoping there is still a chance for them to establish roots and regrow new leaves. Toby you should use this website for info and inspiration about aquarium plants!! https://tropica.com/en/plants/ its what I used while i was researching what plants to get
p.s. you flatter me toby....im sure ur great at sweet talking women lol
p.s.s once I get started I cant stop lol. currently planning a 30 gallon aquarium for various community fish. going to wait for boxing day to buy the supplies!

Thank you Gem my babies have formed a good colony OMG Gem. SO much to talk about!!! about to blow your mind ok? I am getting my "Gem must know this info strain"..(weed) brb in 15..

Gem, are you sitting down. Before the pandemic hit LA and everything closed, took my shitzu for shots at Echo Park hospital. Best in the world!! anyways. am sitting there and I see, I think it was a 10 gallon aquarium in waiting rook not a 20. It inside med size live rock, a tang, and couple other saltwater fish!!! I fing freaked. Gem, I have had saltwater before $900.00 acrylic tank nanocube. Well, the vet will not have a tank in the waiting room for the fish to die right. They always said the salt would eat the glue holding the tank together. Well, it must take a hell of a time. For me, I almost did it, and bought 10 gallons and went salt. But. Either you make the saltwater yourself. Not that hard, or you buy 5 gallons of it at a tropical store. I used to buy local water from Catalina island.

Gem, you could buy a 10 or 30 gallon gallon and go saltwater. THE FILTER I SAW IN TANK WAS YOU BASIC FING FLTER GEM that you see on any 10 gallon tank. omg kid you have no idea how much sea life springs up in about a year. I sold frags, that's a small piece of coral you grow in your tank so ez!! did that years ago. So think about a sea tank . Remember, if you do not, but any fish for at least 6 months, or they will die. Just live rock for 6 months, all in tank, and then it will be read for corral and fish. In a year after buying and setting up a tank, you can add sea horses.

I sold my horse for $400.00 a pair to local buyers. ok back to shrimp. to be coninued

Hi ya Gem, as far as the rabbit snails, the benefits are good. But maybe they are outlawed in your state. Example: my fish guy won't sell nerites like yours.?
OMG STOP, don't get the ghost shrimp please!!! For one, they will die soon. But more importantly, I saw them kill my first red cherry babies and ate them. I took the ghost shrimp and threw them out the window, I was pissed. The octie sounds cool. OK as far as mixing. Young lady your life will long, so go for it. In fact, on eBay they sell you coloured shrimp like 10-20, they call them skittles. Have a ball, yes they will eventually revert to all brown babies. But it's a great learning experience for you. Practice makes babies gurl! Yeah, money is tight from east to west. I recommend Batc food, though it's really only way your babies will survive. Shrimp are mean lil piggies and bullied the tiny ones away. The Bact food is a bacterium that makes biofilm. The baby shrimps thrive on it.
Without you won't have babies, or it will take you ages instead of months. Now get this food if you want to save money for the next 40 years, ok lol. One container will last you for about 100k shrimps. Also shrimp cuisine is a mad fav of my shrimp, they storm the dinner plate.

2021-12-12_2-52-44.jpg

Repashy Gel Food have a vid below, their great vids on it. Simple to make, but the blue one called solylent makes your fish lovey, and they mate like 20 year olds lolol all day almost haha. Many babies ensue. Will last you forever, I mean it. Algae is good for your shrimp.

to be continued

Good movie for ladies to see is called
Children of Men. with Clive Owen.

You had seahorses? ? Thats really cool. But Im nowhere ready for salt water. Financially and emotionally lol. But someday down the line once I have lots of experience keeping freshwater and I wont cry spending thousands on setting up a nice reef tank Ill give it a go. Ive seen some really spectacular ones on youtube with tons of corals, anemones, shrimp, fish, all the good stuff!
I actually already have the shrimp cuisine and yes the shrimp do love it. I am figuring out a way to get my hands on some bacter AE. Think Ill have to have it shipped to a warehouse in america and then shipped to me.
I didnt end up buying the ghost shrimp, just more guppies haha. Im glad I changed my mind. I heard ghost shrimp can hunt down small fry and fish but Ive seen people keep ghost shrimp and neo shrimp together? I guess they end up eating some babies but not enough to wipe them all out.
Im also looking into making my own DIY co2. Saw a video from the king of DIY on it and seems very doable. His method uses citric acid and baking soda. Except everything is so damn expensive here in canada. He said he set up his system for $25, I approx it will cost me $50 at least. Still cheaper than co2 gas canisters tho.
The water here in my city has really high KH. Like between 11-13 dKH, but low GH since the water is softened. Ive decided to get some distilled water and re-mineralize to get a better GH and dKH for the sake of my plants and future shrimp. There must be somewhere in the world that has perfect water for aquariums right out of the tap, I want to go live there lol.

Ill put the move on my watchlist, thanks. First I need to watch Idiocracy (told whitefish Id watch it months ago lol)

I've had a few friends who had saltwater tanks. It did take an emotional toll on them :ROFLMAO:
Mr. White right on the nail sir. OMG, it's a young persons hobby. I was a strapping hunk at 30's when I did my tank. Was no problem lugging 20 gallon of salt water from a tropical store back home. You become addicted to the hobby. Imagine you have a small piece of ocean in your bedroom. You start with a small lil blue demon fish that is a mistake, he's an arsehole bully. I had to get him out later, a horrible time. Later, when I knew what I was doing, I had corrals.sponges, long ass 9 foot eel that game out at night. He was black and white, like the snake from Beetle juice movie. The seahorses I tried at first died my heart broke.

Reason takes at least a year or a bit longer to ensure your tank has enough zooplankton to support the food they need to eat. Gem, my horses were 8 inches long and the same yellow as you gif. Had a secret camera in my bedroom. So before my divorce, I was in France wrapping up some deals. When I get home, the cheating whore of a wife tells me the animals died from a short in the tank. Of course, I believed her. 2 months later, I stumble onto my cameras. I rewind, figuring it's time to erase dead footage. I see the wife on video and her arsehole friend dumping bleach into my tank. Killing everybody!! That was minimal. I caught her in bed with some arsehole also on video, and that was it I left my house and a 20 year marriage and filed for divorce.

For me, leaving her to this day never bothered me, but leaving the kids and setting up a different lifestyle was heartbreaking. But things work out, kids grew up fine with careers and professions. Ex wife never even became friends again, and we never talked. But my daughter would always show the ex pics of me in Italy with different women hahaha. Daughter used to text me Europe. Daddy looks at mum's pics, looking at your pics lolol. It didn't matter, I moved on real quick. Gave up cigarettes, took up drinking for a bit, gave up the drinking years ago too. Stated walking 4 miles a day and working out. You know you're mad hot, at least for a 40 year old. When you stand outside, Pinks hot dogs on La Brea are eating are a hot dog, and Honeys drive by and at the curb try to pick you up haha. Had just seen Brad Pitt in Oceans 11 eating a dog leaning against a wall. Now I am an old thing posting at a forum boring the fuck out of members. hahaha

Yes, since I went revers osmosis, my water is clear 24/7. Shrimp are having babies, even my plants are having plantlets pics to come. I use SALTY SHRIMP FOR RED SHRIMP, one weekly water change for you will be a thing of the past. Get 5 gallons of distilled water, add the measuring spoon of the salty product, swirl it around, TAKE TDS reading with your TDS meter. Robert says 195 or 219 is ok. I like 200 tds. let it set for 24 hours, you're ready to go. Salty water when you do water small water changes, and distilled water only for evaporation top offs. Your plants will do better. You want low maintence plants. Low light and low fertiliser needed.

If you go distilled, you will need a TDS meter and the TDS calibration solution both at Amazon total maybe 25.00, but no more worries about water ph and all that crap. Only way to know that your salty water is 200 TDS. Red shrimp are 200-300 TDS any more, they start to die. I lost an entire colony in the onset tds was 500 and 650 tds, everything died, plants, all creatures dead. That was with tap water. That's when I went with R/O water also distilled, which is the same too.

Sounds like you were in an awful relationship. Sorry to hear that but its good that you escaped it years ago. Life is too short to put up with that kind of shit.
Your daughter sounds like a really cool person. You should tell her to stop by and play some bf hahaha.

Im going to be doing half tap water and half distilled water so I dont need to increase KH just GH. Ended up buying the seachem equilibium. That way my KH and GH should be fine without needing to spend more on DI water.
I want to get a TDS meter but cant find calibration solution or powder. It should be fine without calibration I think? Did u notice there was a big difference before and after calibration for your meter?

All this research and prep has me exhausted tbh. Im sure the results will be worth it tho

Hi ya Gem lucky for me in Calif its lee than a dollar, like 80 cents for r/o water or distilled. Its like 8 bucks from my water delivery guy for 5 gallons, so instead I order it from Amazon Prime. One thing that drives me crazy is cloudy water. Hence, I love this r/o water always crystal clear. Make sure your water temp for shrimp is like 71-72 high temps bring dieses. Ok yes if you use meter, use water calibrator. I just don't know about half tap and half distilled. Gem send these folks at flip aquatics about your half an half see what they say. Yup, it's robers people. at flipaquatics.com. Jere is a solution I use to calibrate my EZ tds meter. The difference is mad huge!! from Amazon.Yea relationships can be fun and nasty ahaha. Gay or straight who cares, be happy and always give it 110% if it doesn't work out. According to AARP Animal, there are 5 billion people on earth. To me when I look down into a honey's eyes and she whispers I love you Toby. I go insane hahahah
