DTLA.. Ur bitch likes me more Bruh
Hi Gem! I wonder how many folks here are into fish and water critters? Using marbles to protect babies has worked many times. The fish hide in spaces between marbles. Also, glass marbles aid in biofilm and algae. Gem, I know folks earning a decent living selling guppies at eBay, kinda cool. In pics, you notice 3-4 marbles and a couple seashells for pending shrimplets. I get my shrimp from flipaquactis.com Tyler and Rod are wonderful folks. They have over 350,000 shrimp and have shrimp 8k..lol. Imagine spending 8 thousand bucks for a tiny shrimp that lives for a year and half at best haha. My red cherry shrimp, shown in pics below. 10 red cherry shrimp for 30 bucks from Ohio to my door. Gem, hope you can post pics of your fish family.

Gem, notice the plate in the second pic? That's a food dish. A must have Gem, it reduces your maintenance of tank and fish illnesses 70%.
Kiss ICK goodbye, and I don't mean ICK William in rc1 map..Hahaha bf4 reference. Bought food dish at Amazon for 7 bucks. Instead of flake food, buy sinking food. To get it right to the plate without a mess or getting wet. Get a long straw. Stick straw in water over the direction of the glass feeding dish, and simply drop food through straw. It will land in dish. So much headache is reduced with this method. Also, if you have a guppy only or community fish tank. One tablespoon of Aquatic salt every water change kills most harmful bacteria. Except it will kill your plants, cause them to melt. Throw in an Almond leaf in your tank, one leaf per 10 gallons. Leaf litter are an important stimulant for guppies.

Gem if I can help and or members have questions. I have raised Seahorses, Tangs, Cichlids, Guppies, Bumblebee Gobys and now Ornamental shrimp-Neocaridina davidi. Cherry Shrimp is a beginner first shrimp. Am crazy about tiny things stage I am going through.

Be safe Gem.

Hey Toby!
Thanks so much for the pics of ur adorable shrimpies!!!
The marble idea is very cool. I know sometimes fish will eat their babies once they hatch so its important for the babies to have somewhere to hide. I used to have red guppies and it was so cool watching them do live births. But yeah as the babies got bigger and they couldnt hide in the pebbles anymore, theyd get eaten by their parents :(
I havent had the fish since I moved, I put them in a glass jar and didnt leave enough air space and they suffocated..... im a murderer D:
The glass dish idea is SUPER NEAT!!!!! I notice that the uneaten flakes when they sink cause lots of gross stuff on the bottom which I constantly had to clean up.
Im hoping to set up a tank sometime soon so Ill try to incorporate the dish idea. Havent decided what type of fish I want this time.

When I set it up Ill be sure to post pics!

Im interested to know what other forum members have fish tanks too

Hmm Gem would be nice to appreciate other "tankers". I think Red has a huge snake... a Python? hahahah sorry, but I read that in a pets thread once. Most tankers now, a days look, they are freaking Italian models. Some others would frighten Jason from Friday the 13th away. The common thread in all is the love for such tiny creatures. I have had from cows, horses, down to my Beni Shitzu. No worries Gem. The fish always forgive and for ever love you for trying to keep them. At the monastery and tomb of Saint Francis. They have His half broken cup, he kept small fish he collected in the streams.

I enjoy planted tanks myself. Been struggling with hair algae lately... I think due to poor lighting. My lights don't grow the plants that I want well, but the hair algae grows like crazy - so the fertilizer feeds the algae!

I do enjoy raising cherry shrimp and have bred guppies some.

Hi Drew, really wowowowo! Your only man I meet doing cherry. All the guys at shrimp club are gay. No problem, I just ain't. Alge solution is amno shrimp. They love alage. tThis is my first brood of shrimp. I can see them now on the side of the tank wall. They getting pink. plants tht do well with low lighting is java moss and mini swords. Also cut back on lighting. But after 40 years doing this. Ws changing over to Reverse omnison water. Its cheap at store.80 cents a gallon. Swiatch to that and omg no more bacteria blooms on water changes, water changes reduced in half. parasite killed and reduced. I use salty shrimp salt from Germany, keeps my shrimp tank at 205 TDS. I use ro/ water for top offs and my mixed salty shrimp water for water changes. Flip aquatics has great videos on it.

Hey @tobyloveswar guess what I am getting today! I recently adopted my brothers beta fish and set up a 10 gallon tank. I decided the tank could use some shrimps to keep things lively. So Im going to buy some live plants, moss, and some cherry shrimp and add them today. Super excited!! I got the glass feeding dish off of Amazon as u suggested and going to use a metal straw to drop the food down.
I will take some pics soon once the tank is all set up with the new plants and the shrimps have acclimated a bit

Damn, I wish I lived back east, so I could drop by with my tutorials. Give me a day or 2 to write an informal guide on raising shrimp. no reason you have to lose many, like I did. Many folks selling them on ebay and doing a virtuous living off it too. You will need a TDS meter, for a fact they are cheap, like 10 bucks amazon ill show you pic. A must have for shrimp. As far as the betta they don't seem to kill red cherry, but some reason they kill blue shrimp. My bettea that lived with the shrimp died. I neglected him, but secretly i wanted him to die. He chased a few shrimp and was told he would eat some babies. I have a ton of betta food if you want. The bestta is the easiest fish to keep.

Water changes once a week, and maybe. No filters needed, but in a 10 gallon tank, the guppies will bite his tail to shred, and that will kill him. Bettas do well in 2 gallons or less. I had a half moon, betta, he was insane pretty. There is much money to be made in fish sales, believe it or not. I found it was like wtf??? Okay, I'll get a guide set up for you, Gem. You don't have to buy a metal straw unless you want to. Get the 3-5 slurpee straws and stick them into each other, that's all you need. You end up making a one lengthy one. place the feeding dish dead centre up against your viewing side. You can drop the food halfway if you like it falls into the plate. The guppies will eat the shrimp. Rule of thumb if the prey can fit in the mouth of a fish? It will be eaten. What I suggest buy GHOST SHRIMP, that's how I started easier and omg CHEAP only a quarter here in la. Tropical fish stores sell them as "feeder fish, they sell guppies and goldfish. You feed your bigger fish, these feeder fish.. and Toby went on and on.......

I think I may have rushed things a tiny bit ?
First off, I decided to buy some cherry red shrimp from a local seller. Got 15 for $25. Not the best offer but I didnt want the ghost shrimp at the pet store so these were the next best thing. Im a bit disappointed because they ended up being quite low grade. Very little red coloring on their bodies. Anyway I dropped the bag in the tank for a bit to get the temps the same and then put some of my tank water in the bag to get them acclimated. Unfortunately I didnt have small tubing so I couldnt do the drip acclimation just dumped some water inside. ?
After 1 -2 hrs the shrimps were swimming around and looked fine so I added them to my tank. And lo and behold....the damn beta fish starts chasing them around and tries to eat them
Jimmy Fallon Reaction GIF

I decided I didnt want them to turn into a $25 dollar snack so I moved the beta into a jar for now. Going to rehome the beta into a 3 gallon tank. Its a pretty fish but I think having one fish is super boring so Ill be donating the beta to my mom and keeping the shrimp and going to buy some shrimp friendly fish in another week or 2.
So far it seems a few of the shrimp have died already....lets see how many are still alive in 2 -3 days from now lol

Hi, first of all, remember a few and far in between on the water change is always 10% if that.
Once a month or 5% weekly, like me lol.
Gem you want to use RO reverse osmosis water, it's cheap and solves about 90% of shrimp issues. You can get it at Walmart or Amazon 80 cents a gallon. Not for Bettas, Bettas need tap water.
if I man my tap water reads on the TDS meter at 350, my sparkletss water that I drink instead reads at 15 tds. and RO water reads 3 on tds. So all problems are reduced with RO water. Shrimp must stay in 200-300 TDS or they die. Have seen some YouTube that they used regular tap water. I tried and colonies died. Since I went RO water my shrimp have babies my snails have babies and my plants for first time in 40 years have babies too lol have already planted them. RO water!! 3 gallon is 3 bucks, or in your case 10 bucks, 10 gallon is ok too for shrimp, especially for a busy young woman lifestyle. Easier to deal with 10 gallons. My tank is on my desk, so I watch them all day lolol. Beetta are used to living in the foot of cattle in Indonesia. The shrimp demand clean water and 200-300 tds i lost many for being stubborn. Gem I just had a batch born, and am totally happy.

The bacter food is excellent for creating biofilm. That's the slimy stuff you feel in tank. Shrimp and babies grave that. If you get a shrimp tank established, you no longer feed them that much.

Oh feeding of shrimp is ever other day.

your tank looks awesome Toby. I noticed some cholla wood and java fern in your tank,. I bought some cholla wood and am in the process of cleaning it but my lame pet store doesnt sell java fern sadly.
By reverse osmosis do you mean distilled water? I searched for it on amazon but only found RO machines...for $300 lol
I am thinking of buying fire red shrimp soon because I really want some nice colored shrimp the ones I have now are very pale. https://www.rgbshrimp.com/product/fire-red-cherry-shrimp-10-40-shrimps-copy/ This site is the one I was looking at and says they raise theirs in tap water...
Im definitely planning on buying some test strips and tds meter to make sure my tank is set up well before I spent like $70 on the new fire shrimp.
Ill also check next time at walmart to see if i can find RO water
Thanks for all the tips toby!!! Appreciate it

Ok RO water is usually sold as purified water. The picture below is one I get from Amazon Prime.
2021-10-16_2-26-45.jpg

iF YOU got cash to burn lol buy the RO machine, install it under sink. Nah not me. Cheaper, simply buy the fing water.
Ya know Gem bout 12 years ago. Used to walk miles push ups, sit ups in 100's and could press 185lbs tops. Could outbox any ucker in my weight belt at the gym. Now I have Amazon Prime lug up 4 gallons. I know I could do it but I prefer not to. That's being old Gem. Kid, I know this, you hear all the time, it's the favourite nag of every old person. Go Doll make love to the world with body, mind and soul. Omg if you already have kids, how lucky and blessed you are in every way possible. Omg, you know what hahaha I turned into Bob Ross, the painter yakking on as he painted hahaha.

As far as substrate, Rob from flipaqautics uses merely pool sand he buys at a local pool supply company literally 1.00 a pound haha my sub ways 20 bucks for maybe 5 pounds Fluval substrate from Amazon prime haha.

Gem, as far as I know, your tap water may be perfectly fine. If you use RO water, no more test strips. Solely your meter. Now get this is if you get the RO water Gem, the shrimp hobby turns easy as pie. If you use RO water, this product, here is a pic. It's freaking magic!!
Robert at www.flipaqauatics turned me to it and its his videos. This product is for CherRy, Fires, Bloody Mary, etc., and all that class of shrimp Neo something.

No matter the volume, water gallons or much less. This will take your water to 200 tds . That's what you want. Of course, 195 or 205 is okay. Remember cherry shrimp for this product, the tds is 200-300. Let's say you have half a gallon of RO water? okay just small amount of the salt. Example, use the handle of scoop instead of the scoop included in salt. If you check the water insert meter, your water will be like 3-5 now, and small salt until you can read 200 or so with TDS meter. DO NOT USE THIS SALT WUTH TAP WATER.

NOW you have ro water prepared for your shrimp, most folks make a 5 gallon amount. for a 3 gallon nano tank, only 10 5 percent water change is okay VIP rob on his YouTube has tanks, he hasn't done a water in change since 2018 and 2019 wow. talking 30,000 shrimp, wow right?

Goldern Rule Tops off to replace evaporated water, only use RO water. Even though water evaporated, the minerals stayed behind.
So if you add RO prepared water with salty. You overdose the shrimp. I did that, lost a few. So on top offs only RO water.

When water changes or replaces your tank water, make sure you add the same amount of prepared water.
Rob says for 10 gallons, maybe 1-2 times a month. This is why it's always best to use a species only tank. Like shrimp only. no other fish.
Gem, the shrimp poop is tiny and takes a while for water to foul up if ever.

Next, Sponge filters get two small ones. I'll get you the right size for Nano Tank, the ones I use.

Well, Gem, it's 3:30 am, the dead are rustling, throwing crap around in the bathroom.
This morning, I found all the tooth brushes in the toilet. I was yelling at them in the bathroom,
MOFs haunt Costco instead arseholes.
Bet they pissed right now hahah

Masterkill asked that we seed rooms. Going to seed right now and see if I can talk to a child ghost in the bathroom.
Reason. I found a small handprint on my bathroom mirror this morning. There are no kids my place. They all grown up now.
Be safe Gem, hope you see this post. will post more soon.

Ok now with TDS meter, you can read your water, now you need this.

Hey tobs!
Sorry these pics took so long.
IMG_20211026_150848260.jpg

Heres what my first tank set up looked like. The only live plant I had was the hornwort in the corner
IMG_20211026_150809725.jpg

Heres a little shrimpy on the cholla wood.
IMG_20211022_180357007.jpg

Here are the shrimps munching on a mulberry tree leaf. There are 8 shrimps at least, can you spot them all lol?

Then I decided to make the tank look more natural, and as my brother put it, "less like the tank of a kindergartener"
1637005209477.png

I added more live plants and kept only one plastic plant. I think it looks much better now. I also added 6 guppies, who seem to be coexisting well with the shrimp so far. Some sad news tho, at least 2 shrimp have died from not molting properly and got eaten by the fish :(
I think Im down to about 7 or 8 shrimp from the 15 that I bought originally....which is not great.
But anyway, I noticed some of the shrimp started to develop a yellowish spot on the top of their body close to their head and got excited that maybe they were eggs? But I havent seen any eggs at all and it seems like the yellow spot had started to disappear.
The bastard guppy fish also kept eating the shrimp food so I had to use a straw and drop the food directly into the cholla wood where the fish couldnt reach it.
I will be hand crafting some cool aquarium natural decor soon, will post pics once I have it ready!

OMGH HI ya Gem the tank is wonderful so perfect in everyway. OK yes that lil yellow thing on their back means it's a girl, those are her eggs. They will move down to underneath her soon, and you can see shrimps form. Your filter maybe a problem tho for babies. I lost alot of babies to my filter. What you can do is use aquaria glue and glue a small tiny piece of sponge from a sponger filter over the intake hole of bottom og filter so baby fish shrimp dont sucked into filter It happened to me I was dam mad. Reason all that raise shrimp only use sponge filters. It makes the difference i have 2 small sponge filters in my tank. It's good because the shrimp need lots of air. I will set you up tonight with pics of my filters and the food i use to get them healthy and in the mood. Its better than anything out there. It exactly how Rob keeps his 360k shrimp alive for sale. It's his shrimp, I bought, that are now having babies everywhere. But it was the food that made it happen. Your plants are noteworthy. If you make it only a shrimp tank with nobody else you will have babies soon. A lot of them, Aldo shrimp have a small bio load so not that much poop. Also, the sponge filters provide a intense place for babies to socialise and especially feed.

I love your tank, the colours and the mulberry leave is excellent! I have almond leaves, everybody loves the leaves. Will get mulberry, no kidding, your shrimp all over it. Your tank is textbook, pro young lady!!!!

WholeFoods hired my team to check the parking lot, Spot if any customers are being followed home. Will be in a OSHA fake inspection van with cameras and two cops LOL. Will set up a pics post of my foods and sponge filters. Keep in mind shrimp food will last you until you're a great grandmother. You will need to get a snail. Best kind for shrimp are Malaysian rabbit snails. I love your tank, the shrimp will prosper there. Okay be safe will post at dawn LOL.
Will answer your PC post tonight too.

LOL, you have GUPPIES? ON NOES!!! They will kill your shrimp and eat the shrimp babies, especially guppies. The rule i if a shrimp can fit in the mouth of a fish, yes it will be eaten. Guppies are the worst murderers in hobby. Have seen them eat their own babies. Worst have observed guppy babies turn on mum and attack her buthole until they ripped it open and ate her guts. I gave up those monsters. They are constantly craving and cruel. In Germany, they call guppy the Dingos of the tank. They kill for no reason. As painful as it is to say, you have to transfer guppies to a diff tank. All you need is a small filter, for them, or a 3 gallon for the guppies. It comes with its own canister filter. The 10 gallon you have I think right is perfect for shrimp. Also, the main reason you don't want guppies is this. In a 10 gallon tank, you can have 5000 shrimp Gem. They sell them on ebay 10 for 30 bucks, it's an acceptable business. The aquariums are mostly a man business. But the women involved sell like crazy.

Gem, let me you in in a secret. I like Mr. Whitefish at AARP, my respect for him is huge. To me, he's like a super dangerous city man, you know what I mean? But if he was selling me, for example, an aquarium? Maybe I buy it. But you selling the tank at twice the price. I will buy it from you, especially if you apply girly ways on phone lmao. Example at the store where I buy my weed, the girls always ask me what am I doing today for fun. First time I heard I was like omg she's 21 should I go for it? Then as I tokk cash out from the ATM next to the counter, I heard her tell this guy that was literally a human pimple. The same thing what you doing tonight for fun. The guy bit and said all husky, waiting for you, babe, some dinner? She said ok call me. She gave him the store number, I know that number by heart as I always call it for delivery too. He leaves all on cloud 9 and as I pay, I see her boyfriend it's THOR!!!!!!!! She didn't do anything wrong. All she did was ask what you doing for fun tonight. Men are like that Gem. We go nuts when a woman talks to us. Consider what Monica did to Presdeint Bill Clinton. She didn't rape him? She just wiggled her ass and winked. LOL how do the gays guys do it hahahaha?

That's not old school, that's just being a straight man. I never buy jewellery from a male. Always I buy from a woman. It was man that dug up that diamond. It was a man that cut that expensive rock. It was man who sold it to the store. But it will be a sweet lady, not sexy or young, only a sweet woman that will make the sale in seconds with me. I had like a gallon of coffee

The guppy requires a high temperature in the tank, tropical fish especially in winter. High temps mean lots of problems for shrimps, mostly disease. Shrimp is hard to cure. The guppies constantly catch ICK and kill off your entire shrimp colony. Shrimp is mostly better off as a species only tank

ok nap time nothing more dreary or advantageous as a dead stakeout. I figured we "got made". Kids are careful about catching a case nowadays,

Gem do you eat Turkey? cause if you do, I have a recipe that years ago chefs from Stuart Angus ate at my place that bird. That's after they made like 300 for the restaurant. This recipe goes back almost 2oo years!!! Simple, and people will declare you a turkey god

Ok be safe
