Issues with BF4 freezing up?

So in your opinion, purchasing an activation key would be the best way to go? Also, what about WIN11? I've heard it's better than 10? Thanks Dan!
Yes, I think you should just upgrade. But specifically, I think you should get a grey market key (I recommend G2A) so that you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars on windows. I can't recommend win11 because I haven't used it yet. It's still quite new and there may be issues with it. Support for win10 ends on Oct. 14, 2025 so you'll still get at least 3 years of support for win10.

Plus, I'm pretty sure win10 will be more similar to win7 than win11, so it'll be easier for you to switch.

OK cool.. Thanks for the good advice! Off the top of your head, do you know what a key cost is for this grey market key from G2A?

So the main things Pro and the others offer over Home is more access to change group policies. I recommend Home.
Ok I see.. I know nothing about group policies..hahaha.. Anyhow would you know if I would use less RAM with WIN10? When I get on BF4 and start playing, I notice my RAM is almost peaked out to over 90%. I'm wondering why I am using so much RAM in game?

I don't think going to win10 will reduce the memory usage of BF4. At most, on max settings, BF4 used 1500MB of memory (1.5GB). So, unless you're only running 2GB of ram, which would be VERY little, I don't think it's BF4 doing that.

One way you can check it with task manager. Open up task manager with CTRL + SHIFT + ESC and click "More details" on the bottom left. You can then sort the applications by Memory usage. I would look at what your memory usage is before launching BF4, and seeing if any one program is using a lot. Then, launch BF4, play for a bit, and check BF4's memory usage in task manager (it should be using the most memory). You can make task manager always be on top by Options > Always on top.

If you don't know how much memory you have in total, you can, in task manager, click the "Performance" tab and then click "Memory" on the left. It will show the total memory on the top right.

Hello again Dan! I've upgraded to WIN10. I did like you said and purchased the Home edition from G2A. I looked around and saw that I needed to download the installation tool. Here is the link so you can see what I downloaded: https://www.g2a.com/instruction/marketplace/203/microsoft-windows-10 Anyhow, I haven't had to use that Key code that I purchased? Did I do something wrong? I was able to keep almost all of my files and apps, just have to get more use to it. I will try and see if I can play a game of BF4 in a moment and report back. BTW, I have 8GB of RAM. Thanks again for your help!

During the installation, it should've prompted you for an activation key. Unless it somehow still automatically activated your win10 from your win7 key, but that offer ended 5 years ago. To check, click the Start button > Settings (cog icon) > System > About. Under Windows Specifications, it should say if your version is activated or not. If it is, I would see about refunding that key.

I did check where you said here and I don't see where it says it is activated. It does say that my pc is monitored and protected. It shows under Device specifications that is has a Device ID number and Product ID number? OK I am just seeing further at the bottom where it says Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows, I clicked on that and it says under Activation that Windows is activated with a digital license. So I didn't need to purchase that key code from G2A...lol.. I did purchase it with Paypal, so perhaps I can contact G2A and ask for a refund?

If it says Windows is activated with a digital license then your win7 activation was transferred. So yes, I would see about getting a refund for that key.

Yes sir, it says just that! Btw, I see some of the programs I had on WIN7 are no longer supported :( I guess I will have to go through each one and update..Pain in the ass microsoft..lol

I haven't come across any programs that worked in 7 and didn't in 10. You can try running them in compatibility mode for windows 7.
One program I had was one of the gadgets offered by microshaft..lol.. I had a gadget that would allow me to see how much RAM I was using. Also showed the temps of each core, and Page size. Do you have any recommendations for a program/gadget like that for windows 10?

This might be an interesting read: https://www.howtogeek.com/277161/ho...ndows-8-and-10-and-why-you-probably-shouldnt/

About a recommendation, I have an AMD graphics card, so I can very easily monitor that stuff using the Radeon Software. I don't think Nvidia has built in capabilities like that. But back when I used Nvidia, I used MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner Statistics server to monitor hardware temps and such.

So I downloaded a program from the link you provided. It's showing I am using 54% RAM..This seems to be high as I didn't start a game of BF4??? I also opened the processes thingy..lol..wow they have a lot of stuff running. I'm sure I can stop most of them, like one drive, whatever that is??? LOL What do you think?

One drive is a microsoft cloud storage program. I use it for school files since they're small, and it's free. I don't know about any programs in the link I provided, I only skimmed it, and it seems to recommend against using gadgets.
I would use task manager to monitor ram and what programs are using ram. You can sort items in task manager by their ram usage to see what's using the most.
Win10 does use around 3.5GB of memory at idle, and 4.4GB for me since I have 16GB total. It will use more depending on how much you have to increase performance. Unfortunately this day and age, 8GB isn't that much.

Sorry I haven't responded back, Felt really bad late Monday night. Not sure if it was influenza or covid/omicron. Definitely had a virus as fever was 102 maybe higher as I didn't even feel like checking it at times..lol..just stayed in bed with aches, chills feeling different parts of my body aching/pains.. who knows what I had. I am starting to feel better, so I guess I'll survive..lol.. I'm thinking maybe I'll add more RAM to the mother board. I think that will help out! Thanks again Dan! :)
