Hello all. I have been having issues with my pc freezing up while in game playing BF4. I do have an older GPU: Nvidia GTX-650ti boost. CPU: Intel Core i-5 3570K. 8 GB ram. Running windows 7-64 bit. The issue I am experiencing is that the game will be working fine, the all of a sudden, my screen will freeze. I then have to use the Task Manager to stop it. Even with Task Manager open, it doesn't stop it right away. Not sure what to do to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Even though Win7 64 bit was a good OS...might be time to upgrade for security reasons. But things I would do to try to resolve...

- Windows updates...install all the things
- driver updates...update everything especially your graphics drivers, nvidia gforce experience can optimize your settings for the game, try it and see if that helps
- bios, update it
- blow the dust off...of heatsinks, mb, graphics card...high temps can cause issues like this
- after you blow the dust off...make sure graphics card is seated properly
those are the easy things.
harder things...run some benchmarking utilities...try something that will stress out CPU and GPU. Could be video card issues, ram, cpu...heat or power.

Thanks for that info! I know the inside is very clean. I try to keep it dust free..lol..Perhaps getting a newer model GPU and more ram? Not sure how long the MB will last though. I've pretty much did all that you recommended, so who knows. I do notice that I will use 80-90% RAM. Perhaps this could also be an issue? Thanks again bro!

There's dust in a computer How? Mine is a tower? You mean you open your pc and blow dust off? LOL that would void the warranty, yes?
Can you imagine a pc in the dust-bowl days in Oklahoma? It was like 3 feet of dust daily outside your door. OMG i read the grapes of wrath, omg what a education I got. Example: I hate it when people say Mexicans are here to pick lettuce. Cause no one else will do it? LOL read the book.! Seemed back in late 20's and early 30's farms in California and Orange County would send planes to drop off flyers all over depressed dust filled mid west. Telling them that California was hiring pickers of all types of produce. Big money cheap housing. When the folks got there, of course, it was full, and folks lived in farm camps. Total ABUSE!

The man Fred that sold the house to us had 5 more on the block. He was the finest man I knew as a kid next to Pops. He started in calif as a kid working picking oranges in Orange County. I was able to view all the photos of the farm hands picking lettuce and oranges. All white young and middle age men from the Midwest.

So don't let any person ever tell you your limits. In the USA, the sky is the limit, and how hard you can dream is your only limits. When I was a spoiled fucker at 17, Pop bought me a brand new Toyota. I was the first in my family to have a new car. Dad was so proud. Three days later, I crashed into an old man's car at Bob's big boy in Toluca Lake. Dad overheard me talking to friends in the garage regarding the accident, and I was being stupid and yuking it up. Dad that night packed my bags and turned me over to Uncle Sal. Next day, I thought I was going to summer resort camp hahaha.

I spent the entire summer picking lettuce, harvesting strawberries in Oxnard, Calif. It's hard work, but you work and work side by side with the finest people I've ever known. I spent 2 more summers doing it because I loved the fresh outdoor, and a dude named Javier, fastest picker, and had the strongest herb and the most breathtaking Sister, Marie Carmen in the world lolol.

Sir at least you have a pent 5. I had a pent 3 when I started playing bf4. If you can get a new rig. My PC opinion is that you get a Dell. Like I did, but folks here will probably give you a lot better choices. Good place to start is AARP Dan. A highly educated young man knows tons of PC stuff.

I would look at Event Viewer to see if there's an error code and what it is. Sometimes you can search the error and find a solution.
Has anything changed about your computer around the time you started having issues?
Hi Dan. I'm not familiar with this event viewer? Perhaps I will Google search to see what I can find. Nothing has really changed since these freezing issues started, so I guess I will dig a little deeper. Thanks for the help!

Get rid of WIN 7, or you will more than likely show up at pbbans as a cheat. Not kidding.
Hi Red, I was totally in the dark about pbbans doing this! Wow, the stuff us gamers have to go through..lol..Thanks for that info! I'm the type of person that once I get use to something it's kind of hard to change to something different. I have been happy with WIN7. BUT, I guess eventually I will have to upgrade. I just heard bad things about WIN10. I am assuming that WIN11 will be the way to go? Perhaps when I do build a new pc, I can get some good advice here. I appreciate you all for helping out!

Easiest way to get to it is start button - run - eventvwr

Has three main logs, application, security, and system. When you experience a crash, got to event viewer and look in the logs for entries around the time of the crash. Best bet is application and system logs. Bad stuff will usually have a red triangle icon.

Oh no you don't dear sir. I have seen Dell PC laptops, though for 5 years the Veep show and on Showtime show billionaires. That's massive product placement. We have laws in Holywood regarding product placement. Must be well reviewed and actually used some productions. So when you walk into Barney's beanery, a favourite of screenwriters is most on Dells or apples. Don't see Microsoft machines much or alienware? At the end of the day, I am a total putz when it comes to pc's. I buy what the rest of the herd buys, and cross fingers. On that, I say trust me and do not buy the economy 77 pack fantasy condoms at the .99 cent store...Don't ask, just don't buy.

OK, I just had the screen freeze up again while playing BF4. It was at 3:16pm. I opened this eventvwr, and went to application and service logs, but nothing there. I didn't see a sub title for application and system logs? I did view under custom views-Administrative Events and it does show errors. At that specific time of 3:16:30 it is showing an Error, and here are the details below:

The program bf4.exe version 1.8.2.48475 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: 1cd8
Start Time: 01d81b95b2967928
Termination Time: 411
Application Path: G:\Battlefield 4\bf4.exe

So you have to go to Even Viewer > Windows Logs > then Application or System. But it seems you found the error anyway. I'd google "The program bf4.exe version 1.8.2.48475 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed" and find something that relates to you (maybe also add the keyword win7 to your search).

Thanks Dan, Still no luck! I've searched around google on this issue and nothing much on a fix. I guess I will just have to break down and build a new rig :( I was also hoping BF2042 would be good, but not sure how long it will be before the bugs are fixed? I was thinking along the lines of building a new desktop with i7 or i9 and not really sure of what GPU to use? Perhaps you can recommend a good combo? Thanks!!!

I don't recommend upgrading, since it's just Bf4 freezing and not your system, it's probably not a hardware issue. Last ditch effort is to install windows 10 (which you really should do anyway) and reinstall bf4.

is this a free update to go to windows 10? Also, I just hate having to get familiar with a new look! If I do get win10, can I still have it to appear like win7? Also, if this doesn't fix my issues with BF4, can I go back to win7? Thanks

I heavily recommend ditching win7. It isn't supported anymore and will be less and less compatible at time goes by. Because of that, anyone running it is more vulnerable to viruses and such. Win10 is more user friendly than win7 and the layout is very similar. It also has WAY better self diagnostic tools and self repair tools.

Win10 is completely free but you will be stuck with a water mark (which you can get rid of with a batch file) and you won't be able to customize colours and such. You can buy a full version for way too much, or you can buy an activation key from a grey market like G2A. Keys don't always work, but you have a chance to work it out with the key seller, and G2A will refund you if it doesn't work. Either way, it is much cheaper than making a new computer.

You can always go back to win7, but you may lose your personal files if they are stored on the same drive as win10. Upgrading to win10 should give you an option to keep personal files, but any programs will no longer be installed.

So in your opinion, purchasing an activation key would be the best way to go? Also, what about WIN11? I've heard it's better than 10? Thanks Dan!
