i5 to i7 makes a big difference

I have the i7-4790K an upgrade from the i5 and really night and day in comparison.

Yep.. Its made a difference for sure. I wonder if I can overclock it even though its not a K. I've heard mixed opinions.

I think going from 12gigs if DDR3 to 16gigs of DDR4 helps too

Ohhhh it's gonna happens, on the way... A MSI GTX 1080 Sea hawk, b450 motherboard and a 2600 ryzen CPU... I have to low my specs to buy the card

But am feeling like Carlton right now hahahha

So my brother in law had an i7-6700 and mobo left over from a client who upgraded.

Previously I was gaming on an i5-4690k with DDR3 ram.

Slapped it in. So, my new build is the i7-6700 Asus mobo and DDR4 ram. Same RX480.

The reviews online said that there was basically no difference between the two chips for gaming with either BF4 or BF1.

Boy were they wrong. Maybe the DDR4 helps too but Im seeing 20-30 FPS more with the i7 in both BF1 and BF4.

I may hold off on getting another 1080ti or possibly a 2080ti unless another game comes out that I fancy.

To get a 20 to 30 fps in gain is really good. I guess I will try to do something around December for an upgrade on mi chip. Though I will not be able to add DDR4 only 3 so that I cannot change and maybe a new video card that would increase for sure my fps. Instead in investing in a $7,500 system to play BF4.

I remember reading a long while back PC benchmark articles and BF4 is one of those few games that were noted to be processor bound , meaning the processor could slow up the rest of the game play if it was under a certain spec , now being over a certain spec didn't yield bigger gains either.

BF4 was a beast of a game on hardware when it was released , you can go back and see from this review how hard it beat up the hardware available at the time. Even with top shelf components this game still ran rough shot over the hardware, at the time of release I had a Nvidia 750 and an AMD Bulldozer, I remember reading how the game engine really chewed up threads and it was light and day difference from Intel to AMD and i5 to i7...

Performance would have been lack luster on my PC at the time and I believe it was one of those initial reasons I passed on the game until I built my latest rig I have now

another article I stumbled upon trying to find the above article was an old blog / benchmark on BF4's memory performance, also a very interesting read, any way you slice it this game was a beast for it's time

I7's are solid chips. Last tax season I got enough of a refund for an I9 9900K and a 2080Ti.... The scenery is breathtaking and next tax season I'll get a 4k monitor to go with that. This way I'll finally be able to see and use the bottom MFD on the F-18 lol

Not in 4K the Ti must be idling. I am maxed out iin every game I play and and I none with unacceptable frame rates.........

My 1080SC is at it's limits with my 4K , in reality it can't hack 4k, g-sync / 4k is a must if you have one of these newer cards and even then it's pushing the limits from what I see in the benchmarks, one thing is for sure you won't need to turn your furnace on in the winter ... lol

Hey les boys. When we flying again?

It's not doing much but what it is doing, it's doing it brilliantly!!! I also tried the TGPS and i love it. Need to practice more with it but so far so good.

The F-18 is getting better and better. With the targeting pod out now, all laser guided weapons can be used to full potential. A few weeks ago I edited the mission wiz and I did a few times to night with a full moon and the views were spectacular. It's so cool what you can do with that sim.

Nice!!!! Looks to be a solid build that should keep you gaming at a high level for a while.

Even the RX480 ive been using gets decent FPS althought I am missing the 1080ti. I think it will made a difference when I grab a 144htz monitor with freesync/gsync.

Yep my old motherboard only took DDR3 thats what I had to buy 16gigs of the DDR4.

Yep it is CPU heavy and its especially heavy at 1080p as the CPU is doing most of the computing.

I didn't notice a huge difference between the RX480 and 1080ti because my i5 was a bottleneck. Im sure if I get another 1080ti or the 2080ti it will see a much better gain in FPS.

Solid. That setup will have you gaming at the top end for a good amount of time.

BF4 is the bottleneck in that setup :glee:

That's the plan, 1080 are expensive here at Mexico, but I managed to buy it hahahah, that's why the 2600, instead of 3600, there's always Christmas to buy the other stuff hahahhahaha

2600 is a great chip. It will overclock really well with an aftermarket cooler too. In the US the 3600 is 70% more but will only give you an increase of 20% in performance.

I've seen refurbished 1080s going for 10,000 pesos. Not sure what the 1080 is going to cost you.

As strange as it sounds the bottleneck seems to be the CPU at this time. Even though it's only working at 16 or 17% load it heats up to 60 - 80 Degrees Celsius. When I googled it, everyone seems to say it's just luck of the draw. Some people just get chips that run hot while others run very cool. Load is not proportional to temperature it seems. It still performs brilliantly, no doubt but I just don't like how hot it gets for how hard it's working.

Yeah as they say some just hit the silicone lottery.

Do you run an aftermarket cooler?

80 isnt dangerous but Im sure it helps heat the house in the winter.

I would hit about 80 before I got a water cooler. Now its low 70s.
