I always thought the goal was to aim at the head with all kinds of weapons, but it's kind of awkward to aim at the head with a shotgun, so I didn't use them that much.

I've found that aiming for the head does more harm than good. It usually isn't worth it. Center of mass works way better.
And for a shotgun, aiming for the head is actually worse. You can one shot someone by aiming at the chest whereas it won't kill them if you hit the head at the same distance. I'm guessing this is because less of the buck shot hits the target.
G18 Is a cowards weapon, been using the ump45 for the longest time. Pretty good for run and gunning around a and b
I've found the UMP45 to be one of the worst weapons in the game. Very low rate of fire and fps. But I agree with you on the G18. It's a cheap weapon, you just pull it out and eveything in front of you is dead in half a second.
I think a lot of players using Recon sniper rifles dont aim while close quarters. They just fire away.
Well, I think the same, the shotgun fires 9 pellets, which makes it more inaccurate when shooting at the head, it would be safer to shoot at the chest, at least from close range; I guess lol.
I haven't used the UMP for a long time, but when I used it in RC1 it didn't go very well with it, maybe I don't know how to use it, or maybe it's like Dan says.
Well... if you use a sniper rifle at close range it is safer to shoot without aiming, at least then you have a small chance, since the aiming time is an advantage for the enemy if you meet him face to face.

Well, before the stats clean up here for an issue with DB, and as for today, maybe a got 16k melee in this server... Can't tell certainly, my personal score is around 19k, so is I got the apache mode here hehheheh
I like to use the shotgun too. It works great for CQB and kills the high pingers who can be difficult to kill sometimes.
