Any one else deal with this problem? I took Dog's exit concerns off track with this so I decided to start a new thread on the subject. I suffered with it for years till the point the late wife and I slept in different rooms because of my snoring. I went and was tested just to find out I had an average of 19 times per hour of sleep interruption because I would quit breathing. After my wife pased it got much worse and I would be up most of the night because if I fell asleep I would just flat out stop breathing, and no shit it is scary as hell waking up and trying to catch your breath. I now wear a C pap Machine when I go to bed, and I sleep like a baby.:moon::moon::moon:. So I would suggest anyone battling this problem to go have a sleep study done and see what that tells your Doctor. Now as RedKilla stated you know a little more about me...........STRYKER.

Yes! It makes night time a nightmare. Trying to lose weight in hopes it helps. Sleep study probably in my future. Need to buy a professional retainer to keep my jaw aligned. Currently use a 5 dollar ebay one.

Well I tried the teeth aligner and it didn't help me at all. So Simpson I would suggest you get a hold of your Doctor and schedule a sleep study. You will not believe how much it helps. Just saying it may be worth the try bro........STRYKER.

There are various solutions for Sleep Apnea, which should be discussed with your doctor. A sleep study may lead to a mask, which helps push air into your lungs so you keep breathing and don't randomly wake up for oxygen. My father uses one, and my only warning is to make sure you get replacement masks periodically. They may whistle if they don't fit right.

I have a CPAP but lost the tubing during a move... I am waiting for the the tubing from not the VA... VA is fuming that the company is dragging it's feet

I use nose pillows because I am a side sleeper. I am glad I know Pulmonary Docs

Doctor told me is a leading cause of dementia. That explains a lot, LOL

My 4 year old suffers from that poor kiddo. We monitor him all night we went few weeks ago too a sleep clinic, I am sure he will be recommended to that machine at night scares the crap out of us.

Sleep studies aren't the same as they used to be. I was sent home with an oversized wristwatch for a night.
Nowadays the new facy things are APAP machines that are more adaptive and ease you into sleep instead of full-bore cramming air into you, making it uncomfortable to exhale.
It's a night and day difference on the APAP.
I use it in combination with a fancy mouthguard - my jaw is pretty well bork'd.

I think a couple of you live in Colorado too - if so opt for a machine with a humidifier built in and remember to clean the thing often.
I was lucky and have Kaiser so I paid a whopping $10 for the sleep study and $0 for the APAP machine.

Simpson - Sleep is far too precious to wait to see if losing weight helps. It makes a night and day difference and the extra energy you get will help bring down the pounds and function in general.
I would highly suggest you take the study ASAP.

Just my .02 as someone that is about 4 months into having one and noticing a huge difference.

Well, the results are in from my in home sleep study and its not good. A normal person has 5 or less sleep interruptions every hour. I have 72 an hour. Of those 72 I stop breathing 20 times an hour for 10 seconds or longer.

Sleep study

Hi Stuart, I just reviewed your sleep study and you have severe obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. It is now recommended you go to the in-lab sleep center at Platte Valley for a Cpap titration sleep study. I have placed the order at this time and will have my staff contact you regarding their information should you not hear from them to call.

Let me know if you have any questions.

No wonder I'm such a bitch!

At first I read that as "No wonder, I'm such a bitch" and thought it was nice that you were admitting it, then I realized you were saying it as if that's the reason you can be a bitch sometimes. Either way I was just going to tell you you've always been this way, sleepy or not and we accept you that way too.
