DHGreeny - Important Announcement From PBBANS

Welcome back. I am actually on vacation this week, but I will happily make a donation as soon add I get back!

Thanks RedKilla, enjoy your holiday! We could be clutching at straws here and I would hope that any donations you make would secure our future but its more than likely buying a little extra time if I'm honest. The posts on the forum are not really getting through to people as we would have hoped. We still get donations in which we are very grateful but we still need more on board who are persistent to make a real impact. Just letting you know the reality of it all really but obviously can't expect just a handful to chip in as I don't think its fair to them likewise to yourselves. I will try a little more to achieve some extra time but how much longer we can keep it up is really unknown. I don't know how much info I can disclose but time is definitely short at this moment.

The absence of pb in BF1 and dwindling server numbers is making it more and more difficult as time goes by..

On a brighter note, appreciate your recent donation :)

These are just my thoughts: I have no idea what you've tried or what is possible I'm just suggesting a possible course of action

I'm not sure about PB's relationship with BF1 but from what I've heard hackers run rampant all over the servers.
My guess is that's because you guys (PB) aren't there (not blaming you at all). If you could try to convince EA or diCE to let you guys run on the BF1 servers we might see a drop in hackers which should increase player numbers so that'll make you and EA happy (if I'm correct in assuming they'll be paying you somewhat).

Hope you guys get the money you need PB has always been a great help to BF and other franchises over the years.

Well PBBANS is a support site that isn't affiliated with Evenbalance the developers of punkbuster. I assume that EB are paid by games DEVS for their service. PBBANS is community driven using the punkbuster software and relies on donations to cover the running costs. EB only issue global GUID bans and any other violations that do not warrant a global GUID ban are served a 2 minute kick even if it is cheat related. PBBANS like other third party anti cheat sites turn that 2 minute kick into a ban with a # violation number attached to it. If a player enters a server that is streaming to PBBANS and receive a global ban, that player will also be entered onto the MBI (Master Ban Index). If its just a PB enabled server then they won't be added. Server owners choose as long as they pass the vetting process whether they want their servers to stream to us or not.

Evenbalance do not have a public ban list for their global bans but PBBANS does for at least those that have been caught on streaming servers which makes it easier for streaming admins and communities to deal with the cheaters also providing certain information on them with tools for them to use.

That being said it is down to Evenbalance to push EA or to negotiate with them to use pb in future titles. Like steam with its VAC anti cheat system, it looks like EA want to keep everything within their company and not outsource anything, well at least anti cheat anyway.

So basically in this present climate its only a matter of time before third party anti cheat sites using pb fall by the wayside. There have not been any other pb enabled games for a while now. Servers are slowly dwindling making it even more difficult to make targets.

The question is.. Is there enough support and interest in the current PB enabled games to reach the donations targets for third party anti cheat sites to stay open at this time?

No problem Undertaker :)

Its ok, I think with a little effort I may be able to keep things going for a bit longer yet. We shall see!

I haven't seen cheaters in BF1 but that doesn't mean much because I haven't played much. Im guessing Dice is taking a manual approach and hire a few folks to investigate suspicious statistics. They are actively banning people but are being extremely quiet about it. Perhaps they should have built a better game? I thought it was over for BF4 when BF1 was released but the players seem to be migrating back a bit. And the stronger servers are weeding out the weak ones. Of course BF4 will get hammered once Dice opens up the rentals finally.

Yeah it could get hammered I guess. I haven't gone for BF1 for the path they have chosen but its not entirely off the cards depending on the choices they make. However I think it would be nice to continue our service if possible until the time is right to close.

Hi again guys,

sorry I didn't reply back then to say thank you for your donations etc but as you all are probably all too familiar there is so much to do in life we can't get round to doing everything with the limited time available :) that being said we are always grateful for donations to keep PBBANs alive and kicking so thanks to all that donate and support us!

November was a fantastic month and we even exceeded the target, unfortunately it slumped back to a quieter December and donations did indeed fall short by a fair margin. I'm hoping though I can get January back up there with the donations goal being at least met. It looks like a push is going to be needed every month to be consistent with reaching our target.

So every last week of the month I'm going to be proactive as much as time will allow to keep this great service going, so heres a little heads up to keep you updated.

Any donations as always will be gratefully received.

Maester, you are retired staff? How long were you in service for?
