Glad to hear it’s back to normal, it was running fine for me a couple days ago so I was hopeful it was good to go.
Update: 11:30am EST I lost connection, and it is showing 20 people waiting to join. This is the same thing that happened to me during the first attacks.

Can't find the source now, but I read recently it is more of an exploit than a ddos. The attacker sends a malicious command to the server which causes it's process to crash. Apparently the code used to cause the crash is becoming more known/widespread among asshats.
This could all be wrong. Really wish I kept the post because it had quite a bit of info.
