Did you ever want to relive the feeling of being in the 80's and early 90's? Well now you can thanks to a genre of music called "Vaporwave". Vaporwave goes back to the early 2000's but had a major resurgence in the 2010s. It's a form of Electronic Music that's based on appropriating, remixing, and inspiration from 80s and 90s mood music styles such as smooth jazz, elevator music, R&B, and lounge music. It comes with similar imagery from those eras, mixed in with a Cyberpunk aesthetic. Lots of pinks, purples, and blues.
For many, especially those who grew up in that consumerist era, it draws out a deep sense of nostalgia, sometimes for things that were never really experienced, or even existed. Perhaps it's caused by a sense of nihilism, or seeking a more simple time, before everything became horribly complicated.
The Genre itself is very 'Generational', since the concepts it's based on were only experienced by people who were born in a particular period of time. Thus, the effects of the music itself may not manifest the same way for each listener. It's less universally relatable than, say, Led Zeppelin or The Beatles.
