Upgrading GPU from 1080 to 3070*

I saw that GPU scalpers were having a hard time making money, and were trying to sell the 4080s at MSRP. So, I figured I'd look at prices on slightly better models than my old 1080.

Anyways, Newegg wouldn't ship to an APO address. Amazon will ship to me, but their prices on GPUs are still inflated. So I decided to check ebay, and there was a used 2080ti for $350 and I pulled the trigger.

That's the story of my first ebay purchase so far ?

Looks like it's a significant upgrade, if it shows up. And my 1080 new was $516.

Hopefully the PSU I have is good enough. I don't think it would handle the 4080 when I checked, but after a brief search it seems my 650w PSU will suffice.

I have a Zotac 2080ti and when I was thinking of selling it to get something newer it looked like they were going for about $375 on eBay so grabbing one for $350 is a good deal.

I had a 1080ti before that and it was and the 2080ti was an upgrade for sure. I had a 650PSU and it was fine.

I game at 1080p but will eventually move to 1440p at some point this year. My 2080ti handles the newest titles really well. I can play 2042 on high and get fps in the low to mid 100s. The 1% lows dont really drop below 90.

I'm on a 1440p 144hz monitor. Haven't checked the framerates in a while, but I couldn't max out the graphics and get high fps. Hopefully that'll change with the upgrade.

Ebay suspended my account almost immediately but I got in contact with customer service quickly and it was just because I was using a VPN on my phone. I had a geezer moment and thought I had been scammed somehow because my payment went thru fine ?

You should definitely be able to max out BF4 at that resolution and framerate. I have my 1080p 144hz capped at 140 fps and it stays there. Rarely do I see it drop below 130. I play on ultra settings with 150% upscaling for the resolution.

I've got same setup. I've seen FPS go up to 120 while flying, but if there is a lot of players it goes down. Just downloaded lasted Nvidia Experience driver (guess it is a graphic driver also) and see that a few settings in the Options Video window show Ultra. I nomally run in Medium sttings.

Only issue I have now is the bloodly screen when my health goes way down.

Bloody screens is a fEAture not a bug

While upgrading your GPU, don't forget about the monitors with 1ms, 240hz +, a real game changer.

FYI - For most players, the red screen appears at the end of the month.

i checked my settings and they are just the standard "HIGH" across the board. on the test system performance it says 128 fps so probably somewhat less in game.

my main limitation is ping.. but thankfully that has been just good enough mostly.

i haven't changed out a video card in a long time. i'm sticking with a gigabyte brand, but do you know if the drivers i have will work without any changes?

I would uninstall what you have now before you put the new card in and then do a fresh install

so, i am still an ebay virgin. guess i'll look around shops in korea but it seemed like their prices were even worse, oddly.

Well, I found a 3070 on Amazon for a little more, but it is the next one under the 2080ti in performance so it's a good upgrade still. And it shipped so that's something.
