Ruger just released their newest pistol-caliber carbine, the LC .45ACP. Was able to source this one under MSRP and put a nice Trijicon MRO red-dot optic on it. Haven't fired it yet, but hope to get to the outdoor range this coming week.

Doubtful, but I gave up hunting decades ago. This is purely for plinking at the range and for castle/boat defense. Rounds cost less than .50 cents each, so pretty reasonable.Would that take out a deer humanely?

Double stack, holds 13 rounds. It will use any full-sized Glock mags, so you could use higher capacity mags if you wanted to.
Sweet looking. Glock mags seem like a big plus. What niche does it fill that an AR-15 does not?
Fires sub-sonic rounds which are safer for in-home defense in populated neighborhoods, for one. Ammo is also cheaper than 5.56. Additionally, I already have a Ruger Mini-14 in .223/5.56, so I really had no use for another semi-auto rifle firing that caliber.
No, not necessarily. I don't really think I have a favorite gun brand, but I do own more Rugers than any other brand.
I'm a total gun noob besides like shooting an m16/m4 once a year. Carried a Beretta as a crew chief for a bit but only held the new service pistol but it seemed like a huge improvement.

Sub-sonic seems good for the shooter; esp indoors. I would think the .45 would be more likely to have more over-penetration than 5.56. Not starting a debate. More curious. And trying to keep from the temptation of getting another firearm.
Oh, no. There's no comparison with regard to over-penetration. The 5.56 has more than twice the muzzle velocity of the .45ACP, with 2200fps vs 875fps (5"-6" barrels). Out of longer barrels, the difference becomes even greater. .45 may have more knockdown power at short range, but 5.56 is a very hot round that easily penetrates through flesh and walls and just keeps going. Effective range of the .45 is about 100-150yds, and 5.56 is about 500yds.
https://www.pewpewtactical.com/home-defense-overpenetration/ is a good read. Lots of variables. The volume of noise from shooting an AR-15 in the house might override the concerns about .45 over-penetration.
Put about 150 rounds through it today at an indoor range, had a blast! Got the optic zeroed within the first 20 rounds or so and had a lot of fun with it.
