Hey folks.

I haven't been that active much due to dental pain that brings me to my knees.
I figured this might be a good place to get advice / learn what other folks went through.
Now I don't mean to offend, but there are a lot of older folks here, and it's probably safe to say some have dentures.
I didn't have any sort of care growing up and ground a lot of my teeth into nothing - This coming Tuesday my teeth on the top are getting pulled (I am keeping the front few) and a temporary stayplate is being put in.
After I heal a bit the plan is a denture - aside from pain, inflammation, drooling, and talking funny what can I expect?

There is probably no easy may through it but I am looking to see made other people have done that are good or bad.
While it's embarrassing to say, I am not even in my thirties and hope that I will heal a bit quicker than normal.

Thanks for any advice in advance and don't flame too hard

Was that the only option you were presented with?

I thought they did implants these days.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Most celebrities who have prefect looking teeth all have implants.

If it were just a couple of teeth maybe, Implants are far too expansive at this point ($25k)
Assuming the bone loss isn't that great I may be able to opt for implants down the road.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. And yeah thats a lot of loot

I had all my teeth pulled at 18...still don't really know why they were all pulled, they weren't all bad? Had some trouble with the front teeth being knocked out due to sport's, got implants for the front 2 and then got them knocked out in a fight LoL. Denture's never really worked for me so I go without, I have a perfect set of denture's somewhere in the basement LoL I would suggest you try to keep as many real teeth as you can even if they need a lot of work...but I have got by without for 40 years

O.K. I have my original teeth minus two but know people that have full sets of dentures. The key is to have them properly fitted or you won't wear them. They are going to hurt some when you first get them because your gums are not accustomed to them. It shouldn't take long for them to seat then you can discover the wear spots and keep going back to the dentist or surgeon that removed them for fitting. This very important as if they hurt you will quit wearing them. Hope this helps out a little.....STRYKER.

I dont have my upper teeth, but I can still eat with what I got with my lowers. Except no hard candy or nuts.

I will have to keep that in mind - I guess I am still shelling out a lot so I will make the most of the visits and bug them until they fit. I thought it was a one and done type thing - thanks!

We're doing one last spot-check tomorrow to make a final plan on what to pull. Day after is D-Day :(
