I would like to join the ranks of the pretty flyboys but not much success using mouse and keyboard. Can I improve using a Joy Stick? If so what is a good model to purchase? Thanks to anyone willing to help out..........STRYKER

Hi, I use the Thrust master M1600000 as it has hall effect sensors instead of resistive ones. I find it to be more stable than the Logitech Pro. Most say the keyboard is better than a joystick, I just don't seem to do as well though. No joystick really comes programmed well in BF and all must be calibrated in windows or else the stick is too sensitive to roll and yaw in both the heli and jets.

I've heard an xbox controller works well. makes sense, but I haven't tried. probably just takes some training,
like anything.

I can fly the same in a heli with either.. keyboard / mouse I prefer for accuracy but it's a lazier experience with a controller ... I have better rounds on the keyboard but I also get "burned up" quicker it's constant correction and key taps , constant ... You also have actually leverage the travel of your switched keyboard for smooth movement of which I never do in a tank or on foot (although I prob should) ...

I'm also into flight sims and I fly model aircraft as my summer hobby with emphasis on helicopters , the mechanics of flight in BF4 for helis is identical to that of a heli in real life so for me it's second nature.

I spend a couple hours a week in the spring / summer on a RC flight simulator, the helis are harder to fly than the BF4 helis, I use my flight simulator controller which is identical to that of a RC Radio controller..

Jets, not so much I can fly them but I'm no good, but I don't have any interest in spending time on them yet, I'm sure at some point I will turn my attention to them...maybe.. but then you have to put up with being called a "Flying Vagina " ...lol...

Thanks guys for dashing my dream of being a pretty fly boy. I guess I will continue to rumble along in my tank as flying seems like to much work for me to master. Besides who wants to be called a FLYING VAGINA ? See you all in the battle field.........STRYKER.

P.S. Ray it is not Recker it is Beckler and I will follow him to the end of the Earth, hopefully with my foot up his salty ass...........lol.

I wouldn't bother getting a joystick. I've always just used mouse and keyboard as well. The choppers fly like bricks in my opinion (excluding scouts) so i tend to avoid them but as for jets, they're super easy to fly once you get the basics down.

Probably the single most technique that'll help you fly is to remove the "fire" bind from spacebar and instead make it pitch up (or pitch down if you have the inverse mouse settings on in which case this next paragraph will be confusing). Pitch up will be your best friend in a jet. Need to turn sharp? Barrel roll with mouse so the top of your jet is facing the direction you want to turn, pitch up with spacebar and occasionally tap the brakes. Need to gain altitude fast? Pitch up with spacebar. Need to constantly turn upwards in a dog fight without losing focus on your speed? Pitch up with spacebar and tap throttle/brakes appropriately. Need to see a little farther distance on the jdam screen? Pitch up with spacebar. Ever think about using pitch down to turn fast? You'll either be shot down almost immediately or crash into the group below you.
