Hey everyone, I finally found my way to the forums! I'm a middle-aged gamer dad from Upstate New York who grew up playing video games on an Atari 2600, an original NES, and a TI-99/4A computer. I also played text based adventure games like Zork, ASCII graphic games like PC Hack, and later multi-player text games like MUDs.

Other than playing Wii games with my family for a few years, most of my adult gaming has been on PCs including a couple I bought, one I Frankensteined together from salvaged parts, and two I built from the ground up with all new components. A couple of upgrades have kept the last one strong enough to play BF4 era games with acceptable frame rates at 2K, but I've been saving for the next rig and plan on spending that very soon on my first gaming laptop.

Some PC single player games I've enjoyed are the Crysis and Far Cry series. My notable multi-player gaming experience includes the Command and Conquer series, Halo PC, BF2, BF3, and BF4. I traveled extensively for work before COVID, and got hooked on various mobile games like War Robots and Nova Empire for a while.

Today I spend what little gaming time I have playing BF4, 80-90% of which happens on the AARP RC1 Golmud server. I like the people I've met there and wanted to link up with you guys outside the game so here I am!

Welcome to the forums!
I'd have to say that the best game on the NES is Mother, and on the SNES, Earthbound. If you haven't played those, you're missing out.
I thought about getting a gaming laptop, but I realized I would never use it. I'm only at the top of my game when I'm at my desk with the proper peripherals.
I've 100% Far Cry 4, still my favorite Far Cry game by far. Sucks that they are all pretty bad PC ports.

Thank you! I haven't played either of those Nintendo games and don't own either console at the moment, but maybe I can check them out using MAME on my PC. Of the series, I would say Far Cry 2 was my favorite. Compared to other games available at the time, I found it to be super immersive and I really got invested in the story and my part in it. Never played any Far Cry games on a console, so PC has been my only experience with them.

I still have my original Coleco, NES and Genesis but if I play those old games I use an emulator too.

Welcome to the forums.

I've actually only played Mother 1 and 2 (Earthbound) on PC through an emulator. The cartridge for Earthbound is like $300.
I've also only played Far Cry on PC. What I mean by crappy PC ports is that they have terrible optimization for the PC and terrible controls. Simple things like negative mouse acceleration (which is only good for controllers) were left in.

Miner 2049er was a great Coleco game.

I still get anxiety when I hear the 10 second countdown :ROFLMAO:

How do you guys get the Location on your profile?

OK that description of bad porting makes sense. I haven't played any Far Cry in a while, but I will try to be aware of that stuff next time I fire up one of those games. After discussing MAME earlier, I dug that out and briefly played some old school Mr. Do! arcade cabinet version. It's pretty fun getting credits without dropping quarters in. :D
