Like Karek said forum participation is mandatory During and After. The forums are the best way to keep up to date with all that is going on, but they are also a lot of fun.
Just to be clear, donations are not mandatory, ever. It has no bearing on whether you can join or not. I just wanted to put that out there. Server and forum activity and making friends are what its all about.
