3. next round of GTXs should be coming out soon (its been a year), have investigated that? the 1080 will drop when the next wave releases...

Go with all the card you can afford, whatever that is. You may want to look at used as well and see if you can score a 1080. I know lots of folks who went to the 1080Ti and pulled their 1080 out to sell. Just a thought.
