Make sure you save some of that candy for the kids in costume this year. Though, admittedly, I got zero trick or treaters last year, and had to suffer alone with three bags worth of candy. It was... tragic. I would also suggest not waiting until the last minute to buy, since all you'll end up with is nasty stuff.

I'm going with full sized candy bars again this year. Last year was the first time I'd done that and it was great to make the kids happy. Also I handed out beers to adults last year but I probably shouldn't again because I'm not going to card everyone.

The kids don't come to my neck of the woods, I too am struck with the burden of consuming the candy myself.

I usually hand out tooth brushes and tooth paste combo. Is that wrong?

In all seriousness, I lived across the street from my dentist growing up. He would actually do that along with the candy.
