When I went to petsmart a few weeks ago I was going to buy shrimp but didnt because they had planaria everywhere in the tank!!
Those ugly bastards are sneaky. I always do a bleach or peroxide dip for my plants and stones before adding them in. But you can still get some hitchhikers even if you're careful. I bought some malaysian trumpet snails last weekend and found a planaria in the plastic bag!
But dont despair Toby. Ive read that planaria traps can be effective at removing some but not all of the planaria. Instead you can use a common drug used for deworming called febendazole. It will nuke all the planaria in the tank. Should be able to buy easily online or at a petstore as it is usually used to deworm dogs. Should be safe for shrimp too as far as Ive read.

Oh you're right! Didnt realize febendazole can kill snails. Well that shouldnt been too much of an issue. Usually non-pest snails are large. You can take out your snails and put them somewhere else for a while. After you treat the tank you can do some small water changes and add carbon and let it run for a while before returning the snails? Not sure how risky this is. Hmm will do excellent idea. My rabbit snail has like 6 babies in the tank now. Some poly filter and carbon sounds like a great cleaner, thank you Gem.

Yup, as you say. They think it may make it to clinical trials. Maybe that's why I haven't caught yet, and everybody around me has.Really interesting! Guess now everyone has an excuse to smoke week? lol
That being said, it seems they did this test in vitro with human cell lines in a plate or tube. Unfortunately many amazing discovering made in vitro (outside the body in test tubes) do not have the same effects in vivo (in a living human body), but theres always those exceptions that end up making it to a market drug.
