Swapped out the i5-4690K for an i7-4790K.

I actually had one of these way back in 2014 and paid around $500 retail. Gave that one to my son when I built his computer a few years ago.

Saw this thing on Kijiji for less than 200. SOLD!

Time to do some benchmarks and gaming of course. :)

Pic of the actual chip. Thankfully it's a Vietnam and not Malaysia version.

The new processor I got is made in Malaysia. Maybe that the reason I had a problem with it. I put it in last week after getting the new thermal compound, but it over heated again so my old one is back in.

And why are all my pics in sideways????

The CPU usage while in game went from the old 85% down to 65% so that helped the bottleneck somewhat for the GPU, but the FPS increase was not that great. It seemed to get too hot to handle for computer at around 49c. With what I have now I still manage to run with the big dogs anyway. What I was wanting was to be able to fly the little bird and spot enemy while spinning. Could not do that with the 60hz monitor. However recently with the 144hz monitor I can see and spot a lot easier.

49c is obviously the heatspreader reading and not the cores. The cores are probably hitting 90 and starting to throttle down.
Get a better cooler or reduce the core clock speeds and see if it makes it better.
