Has anyone had a problem with Windows 10 not being valid after a change of the MoBo? I had a free upgrade last year from Win 7 to Win 10 and I saw a blurb about Microsoft watching Windows 10 users and invaladating the key if system had been changed. Concerned before I upgrade after Christmas.

You may need to contact Microsoft and make them aware you changed the board. I think I read somewhere that they allow you to change hardware only so often.

Check this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

Thanks Animalll. I saved the link so when i do the change I dont have to freak out. I do have my Windows 10 license key on my iPhone notepad.
Seems my MoBo has a slow PCI 2.0 video card slow and my card can use the faster PCI 3.0 format. I cant use Ultra as it crashes my game.

So now I'm back at Medium settings with Frame Rate around 108. Hoping a faster monitor will help me out in spotting Shiyu libra before he knifes me.

A consistent 60 FPS should be good enough for most shooters. Personally, if I could see 108 FPS at medium settings, then I'd increase the eye-candy and play with 60-70 FPS.
As for spotting Shiyu before he knifes you, just assume he is always up your ass and if you're in a tank and on the flags, reverse often as you just might run the lil bastage over. lol

Check this link for some cool info and facts on FPS.

Windows 10 is linked to your hardware IDs these days, so if you change out a major part (like a motherboard), or too many parts, it will invalidate your copy of Window 10. If you have your Product Key linked to a Microsoft Account, it's very easy to reactivate. All you have to do is create an user account with it and it should more or less work from there. You generally have to do a new install of Windows anyways, when you replace a Motherboard and/or CPU anyways.

I have bringing a copy of Windows 8 from build to build, I'm on my 3rd build now and to be honest the next build I'm just ordering a new copy of Windows it's a total pain in the ass to build a box the to have to upgrade it and patch it to death before you can do anything with it. The reason I think I have not had any issues is that it was Windows 8 to Windows 10 upgrade.

I wish game publishers and hardware vendors would put more support into Linux .. but that has been a 10+ year pipe dream that is never going to happen ..

I've decided against changing out the MoBo only to migrate to PCI-3.0. I've viewed some videos on YouTube and most say that the increase in frame rate is marginal. I would see only about a 10% increase in FPS, but the strain on the CPU would be lover.

So, I am going to get some faster memory ram. I have 8 gig of DDR 1333mhz installed and I should be able to go up to 1600mhz. Tiger Direct has 8 gig of DDR 1600mhz for about $45. I'll take some screen shots with FPS visible during the transistion.

Get the most ram your motherboard will except. It will help with Harddrive paging.

If you want to upgrade your CPU, you might want to wait for the Gen 3 AMD Ryzen chips to come out. Even their lowest, $99 chips will have 6 cores, 12 threads, and be overclock-able. Totally beats out the low-to-mid range Intel chips. https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-3000-specs-prices-leaked-upto-16-cores-5-1ghz-on-am4/

Thanks for the info. Right now I've got a decent CPU. AMD AM3+ FX 6 core running at 3.5hz. I'm seeing most all MoBo not even being able to use the AM3 CPU. So for now I'm sticking with newer ram memory. I see from my MoBo installation guide it will accept the DDR3 1688mhz ram so I'm gonna get a stick of that at 8gig. Maybe another stick later if it works out since Wiz says I should get the most.

I'm planning going to go from my I7-3960X to an I9-9900K and will probably just reinstall Windows 10 clean to get the dust bunnies out of the registry.

Been getting parts set aside in advance - already in the garage overhead storage:
EVGA DG-77 Case, with vertical GPU mount (Going to mount chrome standoffs on the front cover for added air flow)
EVGA CPU AIO 280mm cooler
Corsair Vengeance 3000 ram, DDR4
Corsair RMX 850w White PSU

Last purchase will be the I9-9900K and a ASUS TUF Z390 Mobo.

But a clean install of Ween-Dohs is always the best bet.

Those i9 chips are what I want for VM’s and Video encoding.. Most games are not processor bound though.. I would rather put my budget towards an Nvidia 2080 .. it’s to bad you can’t tap into the GPU for regular daily computer functions

I'll probably upgrade to the 3rd gen Ryzen myself. I've had a Ryzen 1700, and I've had no problems with it when it comes to encoding, recording, or playing. I'm going to wait and see how the real-world tests work out, but being first to 7nm is a big deal for AMD. They've not been 'on top' for a very long time, and it's made Intel really lazy.

A note: AMD has promised to support the AM4 platform for the forseeable future, which means you won't have to buy a new motherboard every generation, like you do with Intel.

My computer is a clunker next to what you guys have.

Once I upgrade, purchase my Box!

Asus P9-X79 Mobo...............................................................................- $380 New....and hasn't lost a lot of value even used
Intel I7-3960X Extreme CPU, 6 core, 12 Threads, OC's easy to 4.2.............-$1049 When Purchased....and still selling for 999.78 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3960X-Extreme-Hexa-Core-Processor/dp/B00603QXPW
32GB of Geii DDR3 Ram ......................................................................- $179 When Purchased

Thinking about it.......I could bundle in the:
Enermax Revo 1350 Watt PSU - $346 at Newegg
The Corsair 105 AIO Cooler - $99 on Amazon when replaced by the H110

Heck, I would throw in the Corsair Vengence C70 case for free ($240 new), and an optical drive (Asus DVD WRiter) and all you would need to add is a Video card.

About $2000 worth of computer gear listed there.......discount for age, beer spills, dings and dents, mouse poop, dust bunnies.......

Lets say $600

Otherwise I'm going to part it out on Craigslist for more.

I had a bad Experience with rapid AMD overheating death and no RMA and have never gone back to that well for a drink since.

I may wait for the New EVGA Z390 boards to come out. They Look Pretty sexy and will match the EVGA Case.

This is the Case

I like the vertical GPU Mount option (Several makers are offering that like NZXT )

That's hell of a deal. Wish I had the coin to snap that offer up!

Yeah I totally ran into that issue. All it takes is a call to Microsoft in India and let them reset your activation key..... They'll do it. Just tell them you changed your motherboard and they'll do it. They did it for me :)
