I finally tried Bluetooth on my gaming PC but when I put it on handsfree mode (still push to talk) the quality degrades significantly. I tried pixel buds a series and some Sony wcf500.

Is it possibly a problem with the cheap Bluetooth adapter I got? It's a tiny USB .. thing.

I didn't bring my USB wired headphones with me because I figured Bluetooth would work great, and I really like the compactness but I miss the good quality (relatively) sound.

Might be a bandwidth issue, not sure there is a fix for that being it is bluetooth. I've read bluetooth headsets degrade voice sound quality when also listening to a game or other media in stereo. I don't know that is still true with current tech. Also that Windows will forget or disregard better codecs?!

You can try changing device options so your headset is not allowed to be turned off via Windows Power Management. Option can be un-ticked by going through Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. Right click on your device > click Properties > click Hardware tab > select Bluetooth HID device > click Properties > click Change Settings > select Power Management tab > untick box "Allow computer to turn this device off to save power"

There is a visual guide for this on some tech page if you search it.

Windows 8 bluetooth sucked major ass. You had to turn off Telephony for the bluetooth device so it wouldn't randomly decide to freak out and sing you the song of the robots.

I wouldn't use bluetooth for gaming. It has terrible lag and limited bandwidth so it'll reduce the audio quality when using a mic.
I though all wireless gaming headsets use BLuetooth between the headset and dongle.

Unfortunately like stated above wireless technology can only do so much and in the form of audio you’re severely limited. I would chalk it up to the adapter and try a different one and also maybe reinstall your audio drivers for your computer.
