Charleston, SC
I've been sailing for about 20 years now. Recently bought what is now my sixth different sailboat. This one is another cruiser, a Hans Christian 33. I live in Charleston, SC, but found the boat in Cartagena, Spain. I flew over in late March and did a sea trial and haul-out, made an offer, and came to an agreement on price with the sellers. Closed on her April 15th, and am now waiting on her to be picked up by a yacht transport vessel, which will deliver her to some port on the east coast of the US. From there I will sail her back to Charleston. I think that ultimately I am going to put her in the Bahamas for about half the year so that I can fly in and out and use her with my family whenever we have available time to do it. I've spent a lot of time down there cruising on a couple of previous sailboats, so I'm really looking forward to getting back. Anyone else here do any sailing or sailboat cruising?

Hey lowcountry25,
I'm not a sailor, but frequently fish the florida keys and Bahamas. congratulations on you're recent purchase on a sailboat, looks like it has a little hike to get to you!
Have you thought about sailing the great loop?
I have plans in the future to do so, nothing set in stone of course. iv cruised parts of the Loop already, but nothing significant.

Hi Iceman! No, no desire to do the great loop in a sailboat. I'd be interested in doing it in a trawler in maybe 20 years from now when I'm too old to sail anymore. Right now, all I want to do is sailboat cruise in the Bahamas, Caribbean and Mexico. And you're right about the boat having a little hike to get here! I bought her because her seller had already bought another boat and I got a great deal on this one. Even after shipping her to the US, I got her way below market value.

lowcounty, that's awesome. here in Florida we have as many boat dealships as vehicles dealships, ha. Glad you got a great deal.
Being a local Floridian, we deal with hurricanes and strong storms. have you had to deal with bad weather in the water? I assume it's more risky in a sailboat then a offshore sport fishing boat.

Hey Iceman,

I am on my 3rd boat but its a typical Florida boat, 25ft CC. I am into offshore fishing/diving. Grew up in South Fla and spent most of my life diving and fishing.

Never got the bug to go sailing but really like the idea.

I myself like offshore, bay and inshore fishing.
thousand islands, keys and Boca Grande pass are my typical fishing spots.
